Course Description:
Physical and Earth Science is a full year course following the state of Michigan science objectives. The first semester will be
Physical Science. It will cover the description and measurement of matter/energy and forces, the organization of the periodic table of
elements, chemistry of matter, the examination of motion, and the use of waves in transferring energy. The second semester will have
components of Earth Science which will explain surface features of Michigan, plate tectonics, the effects of technology on our natural
resources, it will cover watersheds of Michigan, elements of weather forecasting and will finish with the study of the universe and the
solar systems.

Class Procedures Rules


Classroom rules and policies must follow those of the school.
Students are to sit in assigned seat.
Lab safety is to be followed while in the lab
Passes will only be issues for Emergencies and are limited to 3 per semester
Respect must be given to each individual at all times.

Attendance
• Attendance will be followed according to school policy.
• You are considered tardy if you enter the classroom after the bell begins ringing.
• You are responsible for all materials presented in class including announcements about course procedures, exams, quizzes
and homework after an excused absence. This information will be available on the website.
• It is your responsibility when you miss class to get the work that was done.
• If you miss a quiz, test or a project presentation you will make it up the day of your return. (exceptions are made for extended
absences.

Evaluation:
TESTS: There will be a test for all chapters covered. Some tests may include sections of several chapters
HOMEWORK: Will be given on a regular basis for students to practice and prepare for the tests and quizzes
CLASS PARTICIPATION/ATTENDANCE = 3 points each day
(Note on participation, to earn full points for a day you must be in class on time, prepared and actively participate in
classroom discussions and activities. Disruption of activities or excessive passes also affect participation grade)

Grading Scale:
A = 90—100% Homework = Homework will be assigned on a regular basis to be turned in on time
B = 80—89% = All assignments worth 5-20 points each
C = 70—79% Homework and class work is expected to be turned in on time and will be marked down when
D = 60—69% they are late, homework will no longer be accepted after the chapter test.
F = ANTHING BELOW 60% Tests = based on 100 % points and are worth 100 points
=The number of tests and quizzes may vary
Extra Credit may be available at teachers’ discretion and is available only to students who
are currently passing the class.
Final Grade
Each card marking period is worth 40% of final grade first marking period 40%
second marking period 40%
Exam is worth 20% of final grade + exam 20%
