Workshop Tote
Box
Here’s a box that will come in handy when you’re faced with do-it-yourself chores
around the house. It’s big enough to carry a good assortment of screws, nails, and
other odds and ends that you’ll need to get the job done. Ours is made from oak
solid stock, except for the bottom, which is 1/4" oak plywood.

Instructions
1. Cut 3/4" stock to a width of 8-1/2" and a length of 10-1/2".
2. Use the dado head cutter to cut the 1/4" x 3/8" dado as shown.
3. Lay out the taper, which starts at the center of the top edge and extends to a
point seven inches from the bottom on each side.
4. Use a saber or band saw to cut out the taper.
5. Round off the top point.
6. Use a Forstner bit to cut the 1" diameter x 1/4" deep dowel hole.
7. Cut the two sides from 1/2" stock to a width of 3" and a length of 15-1/2".
8. Cut the 1/4" deep groove in the sides to take the plywood bottom.
9. Measure the center partition (1/2" thick x 2-1/2" wide) so that it fits snugly
between the two end pieces.
10. Cut the center partition, being sure to cut the ends square.
11. Set up the dado head cutter to cut the 1/4" wide x 1/8" deep groove for the
dividers. NOTE: This groove is cut in both the center partition and the
two side pieces. Have the divider stock handy so you can check for a
good fit.
12. Cut the bottom to size (1/4" x 7-3/8" x 16-1/8").
13. Sand all parts thoroughly.
14. Use glue, clamps, and three #4 finishing nails to assemble all parts.
15. Use four small plugs to fill the dado groove on each end piece.
16. Sand a final time.
17. Apply a couple of coats of polyurethane varnish to complete the project.
