Ansys Tutorial 3

The document provides instructions for performing a finite element analysis of a square plate with a central hole and corner bolt holes subjected to pressure loading on two sides using ANSYS. The steps include preprocessing such as defining geometry, meshing, applying boundary conditions and loads, and initiating the solution. Postprocessing involves reviewing results like deformed shape, stresses, and stress distribution. Examples are also given for analyzing plates and cylindrical pipes using plane stress, plane strain and axisymmetric elements.

Elastic Modulus = 30 E6 psi , Thickness of plate =0.1 Analyze a square plate (edge length= 4in) with a hole at the center (radius = 1in) and four corner bolt holes (diameter =0.25 in). The plate is subjected to pressure load on the two opposite sides and is bolted through the bolt holes. Taking advantage of symmetry a one quadrant model is shown in the figure. The appropriate boundary conditions along symmetric sides are also shown in figure.

Determine the maximum displacement, maximum stresses . Plot the distribution of stresses along a line passing through AC that cuts the plate in to two parts. Example 3. Using plane strain elements analyse the stress distribution on the walls of a cylindrical pipe subjected to internal pressure of 500 Mpa. Pipe E = 210 Gpa. Internal diameter = 50mm External Diameter =150mm.
