AP Physics B 2013-2014
About the Course:
AP Physics B is intended as a second-year course that is equivalent to a full-year non-calculus college course. Each student must be fluent in algebra and basic trigonometry or pre-calculus. Knowledge of calculus is not a requirement of the course, but may lead to a better understanding of several fundamental concepts. The textbook we will be using is Physics, 8th edition by Cutnell & Johnson (Wiley 2009). The text is available electronically on Edmodo (instructions attached).
Course Outline:
The following is a general rule of thumb for the topics we are going to cover. Obviously, due to things out of our control (i.e. hurricane season), the outline may change. Academic Assessments & Requirements:
1. Homework two to three times a week and usually 2 days to complete - MUST BE COMPLETED IN PENCIL NO INK (1st offense warning; 2nd offense Automatic D grade) 2. Labs one lab activity every one to two weeks LAB FEE IS $10 3. Tests at the end of a chapter or unit 4. Calculator a scientific calculator is REQUIRED for this course! We will use it daily. A graphing calculator is recommended. 5. Notebook not required. See below 6. Project a 12 grade project will be completed after the AP exam in May

A notebook is not required, but suggested for this course. Each student should have a three ring binder with three (3) dividers labeled: Class Requirements, Daily Activities/Class Notes, and Labs. This should be brought to class everyday and utilized during every class period. Yes, you may share your binder with other classes.

Also in this section include all notes, sample problems, and any other class activities. Divider #3 Labs This section should include a laboratory log, chronicling all lab activities completed throughout the year. Also in this section, all lab notes and write-ups will be kept.
Turning in Assignments:
All homework will be turned in on time at the beginning of the period or when asked for. Otherwise, it will be considered late. One day late is allowed with a two-grade drop. After that, the work will no longer be accepted and zeros (Zs) will be assigned. If you are absent for a quiz or test, it will be made up the day of your return. All work must be neat, legible, and original. If caught cheating, both the originator and the
copier will receive 2 Fs on the assignment.
If you are absent and it is excused, you are allowed to make-up any assignments that were missed within the time frame allowed by the administration. It is your responsibility to find out what assignments, labs, tests, etc, if any, you missed. CHECK EDMODO!!!!
