INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS MR. DANNY

NAME: ID: PROGRAM: RANJINI A/P CHANDRA KANNAN DBA-S1301-0245 DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION JANUARY 2013

INTAKE:

Question 1
a) Based on the question 1, it is stated that 500 US adults were surveyed based on whether they preferred offshore drilling for oil and natural gas. It came to a conclusion that 69% out of the 500 adults favored this survey. The definition of population is a group of people or animals that are in an area or that are chosen for a task. Based on the question, the population size of this survey is the whole US citizens. On the other hand, the sample size is the part taken from the population size which the information will be obtained. From the population size there were 500 US adults that were chosen to be surveyed. In other words, the sample size is 500 US adults. b) It is descriptive statistic because the 69% is summarizing the characteristic of the sample size. Besides that, the 69% is just describing the main features of the collected data.

Question 2
a) This is a descriptive statement because this statement is just the calculation of Americans who believes that the direction of the country is on the wrong track. Besides that, this statement is just summarizing the percentage of Americans. b) This statement is an inferential statement because it is a conclusion of the survey done regarding whether Americans believe that the countrys direction has gotten off on the wrong track.

Question 3
a) The table below shows the 10 possible outcomes without replacement of the size 3 that can be selected from the 5.

AHC

ACW

CAV

CHA

HCW

HWC

WCA

WCH

VAC

VHW

b) The chances of selecting C, H and A and V, H and W is 2/10

Question 4
Stratified random sampling method is much more reliable compare to cluster. This is because the stratified sampling is normally sampled in proportion to their size. Below are the 3 steps of the procedure: Step 1: Divide the population into mutually exclusive groups. Step 2: Select an individual from each stratum that was divided using the simple random sampling. Step 3: Once the sample has been completed, it should reflect to the population. Strata Size Population Size Below is the example that describes in detail about what is stratified random sampling: Sample Size of a strata= Total sample size The total population is number of top 100 ranked high schools. We have to divide the population into 5 strata based on the percentage of free launch. Percent free lunch 0 under 10 Number of top 100 ranked high schools 50

10 under 20 20 under 30 30 under 40 40 or over

18 11 8 13

Based on the table above, percentage of 40% or more signifies high concentrations of children in poverty are in 13 high ranked schools. Therefore, a stratified sample of 25 high schools is given. Hence, the sample size of the fifth strata = 25 13 100 = 3.25

Question 5
a) It is qualitative variable. This is because the information provided is a nonnumerically valued variable. Besides that, these variables are from the same feature. b) It is discrete quantitative variable. This is because the listed numbers of units in the second column can be listed out even though it may continue indefinitely. c) It is continuous quantitative variable. This is because the numerical listed in the third column can form some interval of numbers.

Question 6
a) True, because the two frequencies will consist of the same numerical. Hence to get the relative frequency, the frequency is divided by the total number of frequency. Conclusion, the result of the relative frequency will be the same.

b) True, because the relative frequency distribution data has the same set of numerical hence the frequency distribution will also have the same numbers. c) When relative frequencies are computed, useful information about the distribution of a single variable over levels of another variable may be presented. Thus, it gives more accurate solution.
