Assalammualaikum and a very good morning to Madam Latifah as our English Teacher and my fellow friends.Today , Im stand here because I want to present to you about the novel of The Curse by Lee Su Ann of chapter 5 and 6.Before I go through with this presentation,I would like to introduce you the members of this group.First and foremost, I am Noraznizah as a team leader for this group.Then,at my right side who is Mohd Safwan and the last one at my left side who is Nisha Annassthasshia.Without wasting time,I will present to you the novel of The Curse for chapter 5 and 6.You can see at the in front that there are five elements that our group will present to you which is synopsis,plot,characters and their charateristics,setting,moral value and the last one is figurative learning.Okay,let us chill and relax because before our group present I would like to show all of you the video relate to chapter 5 and 6.Then, you can understand a little bit about this chapter.Okay,from this video can you conclude what is story about of the chapter 5 and 6 ? Okay never mind and don t worry because my friends and I will explain to you more detail about this chapter on the novel of The Curse. If you see the slide,there are three main points of synopsis.So,its easy to me explain one by one.First point is Azreen goes to the jungle,right? Actually,after a sleepless night,Azreen goest to the jungle to visit the Old Lady.However,she finds the house empty.Later,on the way back from the market,she passed by the mosque and met Asraf.She inquired about Madhuris death.Mohd Asraf tells Azreen that Madhuri was found dead at the rubber estate because of an accident,but there were other everything very quickly and hushed up the whole affair.Azreens mother eats porridge and then rambles on in seeming incoherence.She suddenly claims Madhuri is in danger.This chills Azreen,who recalls Puan Normalas allegation that it was murder and that the villagers are all cursed.While chopping wood with his parang,Encik Salleh senses a presence in the shruberry beside the house.He then hears the sound of the someone weeping or something mewing.After that,the second point is Awang,the village bomoh was frightened.I am believe that all of you will be think about this point.Actually,Awang was frighened by a crazy woman who looked like a pontianak.She had a long thick hair with streaks of grey , a pale gaunt face and large creepy red eyes.She was weeping.Later,the third point is the Old Lady confirms that Madhuri was murdered.This begin when Azreen visits the Old Lady in the jungle again.Azreen asked the Old Lady about Madhuris death . She advised Azreen not to listen to rumours as they could

be damage.She confirmed that Madhuri was murdered.Okay done with synopsis of chapter 5 so I will explain to you the chapter 6.It also same like the previous slide. You can see three main points also in this slide as a synopsis.First point is predict.Actually,this is about Awang the bomoh predict and senses something evil in the air.He had witnessed Haji Ghanis men carry Madhuris lifeless body out of the rubber estate.He noted her beautiful face.And the second point is about mad with jealousy of Madhuri.Who is mad?That is the question.Actually,Fatihah who is the first wife of Haji Ghani was mad how her husband was attracted to Madhuris sweet lilting voice which was able to make the dullest syair into a melodious tune.Angry at how Madhuri had entered and destroyed her peaceful happy married life,she entered Madhuris room and seized the silk drape on her competitors seat and stomps out furiously.Last but not least the last point of synopsis chapter 6 is the Old Lady.Actually,the Old Lady told Azreen why she lived in the forest.She had come to the village as young married beautiful and educated maiden who was celebrated for her cooking and knowledge of herbs.Unfortunately,she had an abusive and drunk husband whom she killed one day in self-defence.For this act,the Old Lady is paying for an eternity.Okay, the next slide the plot for this chapter.This task I would like to invite Nurhasikin to explain more about this. Thank you to Noraznizah .Okay, Iwill explain to you about the plot of chapter 5 and 6.First the exposition or we can called it as a introduction.Like I said before which is Azreen goes into the jungle to visit the Old Lady but she not at there.The rising action is Azreen asks Asraf about the death Madhuri.Asraf tells Azreen that Madhuri was found dead because an accident.After that the climax are Azreen remember Puan Normalas allegation that the villagers are all cursed.Awang the village bomoh also afraid by a crazy woman who looked like pontianak .The falling action is Azreen recalls key events which affected her life profoundly:the sham bull episod when her mother lost the use of one leg , Mohd Asrafs first meeting with Madhuri,and the foster programme in Georgetown,Penang.Beside that,the resolution is the Old Lady tells a fascinated Azreen that the rumours about her true. Okay the next slide about the character and their charateristics.This task I would like to invite Nisha Annassthasshia to explain more about this. Thank you to Nuhasikin give me this opportunity to present this character and their characteristics.Actually there are many character that relate for the both of this chapter.But,I just take note more about Azreen Saleh and the Old Lady.First the charateristics of Azreen Saleh is curious.She curious and solve the mystery of the death Madhuri.Later,Azreen is a loving daughter.She cooks a porridge for her mother that suffer Alzheimer disease.The last one is brave.She is a brave person to friend with the Old Lady.Why Im saying like that? This is because the villagers mention that the Old Lady is very dangerous because the Old Lady was kill her husband.Then,the next character is the Old Lady. Actually she is have a knowledge in traditional herbs and medicine.Moreover,she also knows that Madhuri was murdered. The next slide is about moral values.There are four of moral values that you can see in front.First it is courage which is Azreen never give up to investigate the death of

Madhuri.Then,perseverance which is Azreen shows great perseverance when she tried to solve the mystery the death of Madhuri.Later,it is rationality the villagers ostracised the Old Lady to a loney life in a forest because she killed her husband.They failed to investigate that her husband was a violent,drunk and abusive husband whom she had killed in an act of self defence.Moreover,love and care also the one of the moral value that relate for this chapter which is Azreen love and care her mother that suffer Alzheimer diseases.Thats all from me and I will invite Mohd Safwan to explain about setting and figurative learning. Thank you to Nisha.I will start with explain about setting.Actually we only get about physical setting.On the slide , you can see there are four setting.First it is at the market where Azreen goes to the market to get breakfast and meets Asraf.She persuades him to tell her how Madhuri died.Secondaly,at the kitchen of Azreens house also the one of setting in this chapter when Azreen cooks a porridge for her mother.After that,at the jungle where the home of the Old Lady when the villagers outcast her for killing her abusive husband.Futhermore,Haji Ghanis house also the one of setting when Puan Fatihah also makes a great effort to win back her husband but is unsuccessful.The last slide is about figurative learning. Simile : is a figure of speech comparing two unlike thing,often introduced with the two words like,as,orthen.Example is fingers pointed,harsh words were spoken and friends avoided her like a leper.Later,it is personafication which is an inanimated object is personified by attributing human traits and qualities to it.For example are The sun had yet to peek from behind the low hillsthis is will be found at the page of 45, the plank beneath her feet creaked that will be found at the page of 80 and whose muscular biceps flexed menacingly that you can search at the page of 93.Futhermore,onomatopoeia which is words that sound like the object they have or the sounds ther objects make.For example which isThe plank beneath her feet creakedat the page of 80.Lastly,it is hyperboles which is a figure of speech that are exaggerated in order to create emphasis or effect.For example which is Argh Ill be dead if the teacher finds outthat will be found at the page of 90.
