1. Introdu tion
The present read-write programmer is specifically designed for the development and batch release of ATMELs AT88SC series crypto ! sec"re memories devices #S$-8 pac%ed& '()-8 pac%ed and cartridge*+ ,ith the read-write config"ration -one and read-write "ser -one& the device has a range of f"nctions s"ch as sim"lated a"thentification #open to "sers who signed the .'A agreement with ATMEL only*& config"ration file management and off-line programming #able to program the target device independently witho"t a personal comp"ter*+ Even if the f"se is blown #FUSES=#00H*& all the data and config"ration files inside can be retracted with the correct /c and password+

(ntall the device as follows3 7* Connect the 0S-121 comm"nication cable to a personal comp"ter+ 1* Connect the 'C inp"t power+ 2* Switch ),0 to the $. side+

7+ Select the corresponding device model in the Device Selection men"& press Enter+ 1+ (nstall the device and select Power on in the Device Operation men" to ma%e the device power on+ 2+ Select Read-Write Configuration Zone in the Device Operation men" to opeate+ >+ <or "nf"sed devices& enter the password and press Test Sec"re Code #SC*+ <or the f"sed devices& press ead-In !"P File to lead in all the /c and password with #$gp file+ 0efer to <ig"re ;+7 for creating s"ch a file+ ;+ )ress Read Configuration Zone to read the corresponding data& press Esc to e:it+ @+ Select Read-Write User Zone in the Device Operation men"& press 0ead Bser )artition b"tton to read data in the present "ser -one+ To readAmodify other "ser -one& select the "ser -one first and press %sc to e:it after completion+ C+ Select Save Configuration File in the File men"& enter the file name and select Save+ 0eading config"ration -one and "ser -one will delete all the previo"sly installed config"ration files+

Compare the already-installed config"ration files to fig"re o"t which is the freshly-installed one+ 7+ Select Install Configuration File in the File men"& and "ser config"reation file will be installed and remain even in case of a power brea%down+ 1+ Select Compare Configuration File in the File men"+

7+ Select Install Configuration File in the File men"+ The installed "ser config"ration file will remain even in case of a power off+ <or already installed config"ration file& the first two steps can be s%ipped+ 1+ Switch the )0$/ to D)0$/E side+ 2+ )lace a device to the soc%et of the set+ >+ )ress TEST to test the device+ (f it is correctly installed& the $8 light will light "p& otherwise& rechec% the placement+ ;+ )ress the )0$M b"tton+ @+ ,hen the programming operation is done& the b"--er will so"nd one time and the $8 light will flic%er once sim"ltaneo"sly and the co"nter is added 79 if the operation fails& the b"ffer will so"nd three times shortly and the $8 light will not light "p+ 0oti e1

Ma%e s"re that the device is correctly installed& the model of the config"ration file match that of the device waiting to be programed& and the sec"re code match that of the device waiting to be programed also+ <"sed device or device whose f"se val"e is not =CF cannot be programmed again+

2. Soft"are Use 2.1 Po"er off and on

1. .-eration *efore fuse is *lo"n After selecting 0ead-,rite Config"ration Gone in the Device Operation men"& the following window will pop "p+ Enter sec"re code to test the device before operation+ After installing the config"ration file& any reading operation will delete the inp"t data #witho"t changing the config"ration file*+

To read the correct data& select the device model before read-write operation+ )ress Read User Partition to display data in the corresponding "ser -one+ (f data is modified& press Write User Zone to write it into the device& one "ser -one can be written once9 re-select the "ser -one to write others+

Simulated Aut&entifi ation

6erify sec"re code and ma%e s"re the f"se has not been blown before operation+ Select Simulated (ut)entification in the Device Operation men" to see the the following bo:+ The sim"lated a"thentification is located in the =1F -one+ .-en onl+ to t&e user "&o signed t&e 03A agreement "it& t&e ATM6/.

7+ 'o not press any %ey when the device is comm"nicating with the )C+ 1+ Connect and power on the hardware before starting "p+ 2+ 0eading of the config"ration -one and "ser -one will delete all the previo"sly installed config"ration file+ >+ 4efore programming& ma%e s"re the device is correctly installed& the model of the config"ration file match that of the device waiting to be programmed& and the sec"re code of the config"ration file match that of the device waiting to be programmed+ ;+ Sec"re code cannot be verified if the f"se is blown+ Lead in the correct /cA)assword before operation to ens"re the device to read the real data inside9 otherwise& some AAC or )AC may not be t"rned into <<F or the device may be loc%ed "p #cannot be "sed again*+ To avoid this& save /cA)assword& and be caref"l when leading-in the /cA)assword+ @+ The present device does not s"pport off-line programming in the following sit"ations3 the S$8 and '()8 pac%ed device whose f"se val"e is not =CF& device pac%ed smart card whose f"se val"e is not >@F+ Man"al operation sho"ld be cond"cted in the above cases+ C+ To write f"se3The f"se can only be written after passing the sec"re code test+ The f"se val"e of new S$8 and '()8 pac%ed device is =CF& and device pac%ed smart card is >@F #that is& AT0 and <A4 are read only*+ 8+ The MTG of the device pac%ed smart card will res"me its defa"lt val"e of <8<@F after power on again+ 5+ The Sec"re Code in the config"ration file is the password "sed for programming& while ,0(TEC is the password for modifying the saved program+ Bs"ally& the "sers are recommended to change the Sec"re Code and ta%e good care of the config"ration file witho"t blowing the f"se& if the device config"ration is li%ely to be modified+ 7=+ The config"ration file contains the "ser -one& data in the config"ration -one& device model& f"se val"e& and the Sec"re Code for device programming+ 77+ The defa"lt model after a normal start"p is AT88SC0104C. 12.
