B. Summary of the Lesson Plan:
This social studies lesson is for 2nd grade students to learn the types of social groups to
which people belong in a community. This lesson will be completed using a list of
interview question to interview a member of the community.

Grade Level: 2nd grade
Time to Complete this Lesson: Approximately 50 minutes
Groupings: Whole group discussion, partners for discussion, independent work for
assessment

Journal

List of interview questions

G. Procedure:
1. Review the list of social groups to which people belong to in the community
2. Explain the concept of social groups

3. Call students attention to the features of an interview
4. Identify & discuss some of the elements of conducting an interview
o Have students conduct an interview with member of a social group in the
community and write questions answers in their journals
o Interview questions
Where were you born?
What are some of your hobbies?
What social group do you belong to?
What are some of the activities that your social group does for the community?
5. Introduce vocabulary (interview, hobby, social group)

What will you use to measure student understanding?
I will have the students write answers to interview questions in their journals
Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.
Students must have all the answers to the list interview questions in their journals
