Cisco VPN for Ubuntu with OpenConnect
Introduction
The following instructions detail how to set up the OpenConnect VPN client for Ubuntu Linux.
You need to use the VPN if you are trying to access Campus Resources that require you to be
behind the firewall (i.e., on-campus). This guide is for the primary UA VPN. If access to a
department specific profile is required, please contact the Network Manager for that department.
NOTE: The VPN client that this guide is based on is available in many other Linux
distributions, but may differ in menu design slightly.
Download and Installation of OpenConnect:
One package will be installed. This is network-manager-openconnect available from the official
Ubuntu repositories. Installation is outlined below.
Open terminal.
Type sudo apt-get install network-manager-openconnect , and then type your password.

Press Enter, then press the letter y, and then press enter again.
The process will complete and leave the cursor at the prompt:
Installation is now complete.
Configuring Cisco VPN for Ubuntu Linux
Click the Networking icon (wireless is shown in this guide), and go to the VPN connections
section. Within that section there will be an option to Configure VPN.
The Network Connections window will open.
Click the Add button.

The Choose a VPN Connection Type window will open.
Select Cisco AnyConnect Compatible VPN.
Next, you will need to configure the settings for the VPN connection. Click Save after filling out
the window as shown.
o Name the Connection University of Arizona
o Use vpn.arizona.edu as the Gateway
o Do not change any other settings

Click the close button.
Click the networking icon, go to the VPN connection option, and then click University of
Arizona.

A window will pop up. Click the connect button on the top right corner.
The following window will be displayed with the details of the certificate used.

The following connection dialogue window will display.
Fill this out with your NetID as the username, and your NetID password as the password.
Click Login.

Once successfully connected, a notification will be displayed and a small lock will be displayed
on the networking Icon.
If access to a departmental specific VPN is required, please contact the Network Manager for that
department.
