organization. (Answer should not exceed 1.5 pages)

Leadership
The ability to influence, motivate and direct others in order to attain desired objectives.

Core Leadership skills

The bare-bones of basic leadership include a leader, a follower & a specific situation.
Leadership occurs only when someone influences others to act. Leadership skills are:
Empowerment: - It occurs when a leader shares influence & control with followers. In
doing so, the leaders involve team members in deciding how to achieve organizations
goals. Empowerment basic human needs for achievement, a sense of belonging & selfesteem.
Ex: Executive Vice President at Skanska Company limited Mrs. Kerin lepasoon is
ready to share the operational knowledge, which gathered at Master of Swedish and
International Law, University of Lund, Sweden.

Intuition: - The ability to scan a situation, anticipate changes, take risks & built trust are
all facets of intuition. Good leaders have an intuitive feel for changes that will occur
around them. They move quickly in serving new customers, they find new competitive
advantages & they exploit company strengths.
Ex: Unfortunately Skanska had 2 fatalities and subcontractors 16 in 2004. Most of
these fatalities were related to falls from heights and traffic accidents.
Self-Understanding:- It is the ability to recognize ones strengths & compensate for
ones weaknesses. Corporations that have done a good job at developing leaders, put
an emphasis on creating challenging opportunities for young management employees.
Ex: For many years, a number of employees from throughout the Group have attended
the Skanska Top Executive Program (STEP), provided in collaboration with the
business school IMD in Switzerland, which aims at developing participants strategic
thinking while helping to strengthen their affinity with Skanska and build networks
between individuals and units.

Vision: - It is the ability to imagine a different & better situation & ways to achieve it.
Ex: Skanskas vision is to be a leader in our home markets, to be the customer's
first choice in construction and project development.
Eg: using hi-tec machineries, Skanska has highly skilled employees.
Value congruence: - It is the ability to understand organizations guiding principles &
employees values & reconcile the two. When top management was autocratic, & the employee
wanted to make decision as teams. Only after both union & management group jointly decided on
an approach to turn the company around was the company saved.

The policy for safety at Skanska there are some specific rules to follow
Skanska has introduced simple rules which the company and employees can
follow.
