Journal w2

This journal entry summarizes the student teacher's second week of practicum at a primary school. They realized that a teacher's responsibilities go beyond just teaching, as they are also responsible for student behavior and ensuring all school activities run smoothly. However, several of the student teacher's planned lessons had to be postponed due to activities organized by the school running late. The student teacher recognizes they need to be better prepared for unexpected school programs and ensure they are well-rested to handle all aspects of a teacher's job. Going forward, they will focus on being more organized and relaxed to adapt to the demands of their role.

Title: Teacher vs programme in school

INTRODUCTION
This is the second week of my second phase practicum at SKK Sekolah Kebangsaan Paya
Rumput, Melaka. Praise to Allah as I am getting better in remembering the pupils names and get to know
each others personality. In this hectic week, my supervising teacher, Madam Nur Azrina and supervising
lecturer, Madam Khaliah had observed my teaching. Although I was busy in helping the teachers to
prepare on the programme on Tuesday and Wednesday, yet my teaching and learning process went well.
Generally, I am still adjusting myself to follow the schools activities.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
After 5 days of being here, I realize that being in school is not as easy as others assumptions
towards teacher. For example, Youre so lucky to have so much vacation time, especially during
school holidays., It must be so easy to teach the primary school children as they are still young
compared to secondary schools students. Those annoying comments just go to show that people
who arent in education simply cant understand all of the work that goes into being a classroom teacher.
As I am in the schools compound, I started to realize that teachers job is not only teaching, grading or
correcting homework but they were also parents to the pupils in school. This means teacher had to control
the pupils behavior and also to ensure all planned activities went well.
For this hectic week, I felt a bit disappointed with the lesson that Ive planned on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday but it ended with no lesson as the programme in charged by the school
finished late. I was catching up with times as I had to prepare the information for the birds cage, prepare
the English corner and also plan action song for this becoming event which is PIBG meeting. The lesson
was postponed to the week after we had the event.
ANALYSIS
In this week, I think this are the reasons why the problem occurred:
1) I did not have any experience with any activities planned by the school.
2) I am too tired with the workload and the weather of the day is too hot.

From my observation, the teacher has to always be ready with the activities planned by the schools
administrator. This was proven in an article entitled Why Non-Teachers Can Never Really Understand Our Job by
Beth Lewis
The word teacher just doesnt cover it. Were also nurses, psychologists, recess monitors, social
workers, parental counselors, secretaries, copy machine mechanics, and almost literally parents, in some
instances, to our students. If youre in a corporate setting, you can say, Thats not in my job description. When
youre a teacher, you have to be ready for everything and anything to be thrown at you on a given day. And
theres no turning it down.
(Beth Lewis, 2014)
This shows that teacher should be alert with every activity or programme without any complain. Generally,
every one of us has to face with problem. So, I think this is not a big problem just a challenge for me to face with
when Im in this profession soon.

WAYS TO OVERCOME
1) I must make a plan to make myself more organized.
2) I also have to be relax and do not complain too much.
3) I must sleep earlier, get enough rest and also eat healthy food to ensure I always energetic with school
activities.
PERIOD OF ACHIVEMENT
16th February 20th February 2015
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this week was quite hectic for me as I have to adjust myself with the school surrounding, the
pupils, the teachers and also the activities planned by the school. I think I should be relaxed and get ready for the
upcoming ad hoc events, it will somehow help me in getting organized and systematic when Im in this profession
sooner.
