METHODOLOGY
Methodology deals with the research approach, research design, setting sample, sampling
technique, instrument, data collection and analysis
Research design
The research design is a blue print for conducting the study that maximizes the control
over factors that could interferes with the validity of the findings. It guides the researcher in
planning and implementing the study in a way that is most likely to achieve the independent
goal.

A quasi experimental design has been chosen for this study with randomization ,
observation have been made before and after education.

Setting of the study
The study was conducted in the Sree Abirami College of Nursing at Coimbatore. This
college is situated at a distance of 9 km from main bus stand(Ukkadam)

Population

According to Polit and Hungler(2005) A population is the entire aggregation of causes
in which a researcher is interested.
The accessible population selected for this study includes 30 girls who have age group
above 17 years. Sree Abirami College at Sundarapuram, Coimbatore who are in final year B SC
Nursing.
Sample
The sample size consist of 30 fourth year B SC Nursing students.
Sampling technique
A non probability convenient sampling technique is developed for the study to select the
sample. Fourth year B SC Nursing students are selected according to the availability of the
sample.
Criteria for selection of sample
Inclusion criteria
1. Fourth year B SC Nursing students who are present during the time of data
collection.
2. Fourth year B SC Nursing students who are willing to participate during data
collection.
Exclusion criteria
1. Fourth year B SC Nursing students who are not present during the time of
data collection
2. Fourth year B SC Nursing students who are sick during the time of data
collection
3. Fourth year B SC Nursing students who are not willing to participate in the
study.
Development of the tool
The research tool was developed in English after an extensive review of literature and
experts opinion.

Description of the tool
A tool consist of two section
Section A-A planned interview schedule consist of demographic variables of final yeare
B.SC Nursing students like who belongs to more than 17 years (age ,education, type of family,
qualification and family background)
Section B-A planned interview schedule consist of 25 multiple choice questions to assess
the knowledge regarding Glasgow coma scale in final year B.SC nursing students.
Scoring procedure
Section B-multiple choice questions on knowledge regarding Glasgow coma scale, the
maximum possible score is 25. Score of 1 mark is given to every correct answer and score of 0 is
given to every wrong answer.
For the purpose of study the total score was classified as follows;
75%- Adequate knowledge
51-74%- Moderate adequate knowledge
Below 50%- Inadequate knowledge
Validity

Validity is a degree to which an instrument measures and what it is supposed to be
measuring.
Polit and Hungler (2005)
The tool was evaluated by experts; After their valuable suggestions the tool was updated
and implemented.
Data collection procedure
Get the permission from the selected college.Randomly select the female samples from
final year B SC Nursing classThe investigator collect the existing data by using planned
questionnaire.Provide the interventions to the selected group by giving structured teaching
program. Assess the knowledge by comparing pre-test and post-test score.
Plan of data analysis
The demographic variables were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The
effectiveness of planned teaching program was analyzed using paired t test. Association
between the knowledge with their selected demographic variables was analysed by using
inferential statistics.
