D in the Discipline of Computer Science
The School of Computer & Information Science invites applications for Ph.D in
the discipline of Computer & Information Science. The invitation is being made public
based on the request of the Director of the School of Computer & Information Science
vide their letter dated 08.02.2011.
Interested candidates may download Prospectus and Application forms. Filled in
Application forms may please be submitted to the Director, Research Unit, Block -06,
IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110 068 on or before 28 th February, 2011. Detailed
information pertaining to Ph.D in Computer Science is placed below. Prospective
Learners may contact the Programme Coordinator of Computer Science if the need any
clarification in this regard.

Eligibility Criteria
i)
For Category A:
: M.Phil & PhD
: Computer and Information Science
: January and July every year
: Independent Mode
: Category A & B
a. M. Phil degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology etc with 55%. (50% for
SC/ST/PH candidates).
b. Candidates having 3 years teaching experience of teaching Computer Science courses /IT in a
college or University and having qualified NET examination in Computer Science of UGC.
ii)
For Category B:
a. Masters degree or an equivalent degree from any recognized University/Institute of higher
learning in any relevant branch of Science / Engineering & Technology with atleast 60% marks
(55% for SC/ST/PH candidates).
b. The candidates having Masters degree in any subject with minimum 60% marks (55% for
SC/ST/PH candidates) having sufficient background in the area of computer science / IT, may
also be considered.
c. B.Tech in Computer Science / Information Technology with 70% marks (65% marks for
SC/ST/PH candidates) with 5 years experience either of teaching or in the software industry
may also be considered.

Presentation+ Interview

For Category B:
Entrance Test+ Interview
Note : Qualified candidates from UGC NET & Other similar Tests shall be exempted from the
Entrance Test in case of Category B
(IV)
i. Proposed dates for Ph.D Synopsis Presentation for Category A: To be decided by the
Doctoral Committee.
ii. Proposed dates for Interview for both the categories: To be decided by the School.

(V)
Course Work for Category B: Course work is of 32 credits. The minimum duration of the course
work is 12 months. Course Work could also be assigned for Category A, if Doctoral Committee desires.
