A. INTRODUCTIONS
Definition of Letter
The letter is a means of communication to convey information in writing by one party to the
other. In general, it takes stamps and envelopes as a means of exchange for paying the
shipping service. The further purpose of sending of the values listed should be the greater
stamps.
Types of Letter
Types of letter messages are now divided into several, each of which has the form, use,
purpose, content, and use of different grammar. The following are the kinds of letters that
exist today :
1. Types of letter - Personal Letter
What is meant by personal letter is a letter written by an individual ( personal ) and delivered
in an individual ( personal ) others. As its name suggests, the private letter was used for
private purposes. And because it is private, then of course the user is a person, for example,
among friends, family, or relatives.
The particularity of this personal letter, of course unofficial form of a letter or free. The

4. Types of Letters - Letter of Commerce
Next namely Letter of Commerce. What is meant by commercial mail is a formal letter that is
used for the purposes of trade or commerce or other business activities, such as for marketing
purposes. Users of commercial letters are those engaged in trade, industry, or services.
Some components in the commercial letter that such receipts, or proof of payment. And
sample letter example is the commercial sale and purchase agreement, letter of credit billing,
business cooperation letter, and much more.
5. Types of Letter - Cover Letters Job
Job application letter is a letter written by someone and is intended for a specific company or

nature .
Job application letter is usually written for a person with the intention of applying for a job at
a certain company or agency. And because it is official, the style process of writing also use
the official language.
6. Types of Letter - Electronic Mail ( Email / E - Mail )
And the most modern types of letters of all kinds of letters that exist today are electronic mail
or also referred to as " E-mail" or " e - mail " ( Electronic Mail ).
And as the name suggests, the electronic mail is a letter written and sent electronically. as in
the word E - Commerce or E -Learning, electronic word here refers to the use of computer
facilities and Internet networks.
By using the Internet facility , then the process of writing and sending a letter to be more
efficient and much faster. Electronic mail can be sent directly received by the recipient in a
matter of seconds.
Function Of Letter
There are some functions of the letter are as follows :
1. A letter as a means of communication.
2. Letter as a tool giving notice, demand, request, thoughts or ideas.
3. The letter as written evidence, for example the agreement.
4. Letter as a tool for remembering, for example letters archived.
5. Letter as a working guideline, for example decrees and orders.
6. Letter as historical.

regrad personal important. The purpose of learning to write personal letters one of which we
can express a variety of feelings we feel freely in the letter, can develop the grammar that we
have, are free to write any existing ideas our mind.
2) BUSINESS LETTER
Business letter is a letter that is used by a person to the organizational institutions that convey
business messages using certain media an example of a job application letter.
The purpose of learning to write personal letters we can improve and in creative making a
good job application letter, job application letter can be our capital for use in the workplace.

From the discussion of the various letters above we conclude that the personal letters and job
application letters have similarities and differences, namely,
1. Personal letter language should not be raw, be sent to the family, relatives,

friends, no letter head, no numbers regarding, and attachments.
2. While a formal letter using a standard language , sent from the institution or sent to
institutions or individuals, no letter head, no letter number, subject, and attachments.
