Indoor Playground Committee
This committee is in need of a few more volunteers. If you can spare a few hours to volunteer to
clean the Indoor Playground and Discovery Room (approximately 7 times/year, with a partner),
please give us a call. You can volunteer anytime over the weekend, and if need be bring your
children to play while you clean. The benefits to volunteering include:
Early Bird registration for programs.
Early Bird tickets to the annual Monster Mash and Bunny Hop.

Scavenger Hunt &
Picnic
Each family will receive a bag and a list of things to find and they will have to go out on a hunt. When we
are finished we will meet to share some of our findings, make a small craft and have a picnic.

Triple P Screen Time Dilemma
Sometimes it seems like kids spend all their time in front of the TV, on a smartphone or on the
computer. You might even feel like banning technology from your house - that's your choice. But, for
most parents the reality is we need to adapt and we need to help our kids lead a balanced life.
Children can benefit from age-appropriate technology. Watching TV or playing on the computer can be
fun, entertaining and a good way to relax. And there are many programs, games and apps that are
educational and can help your child's learning.
But if children spend too much time in front of a screen they will miss out on
other important activities. Things like playing outdoors, talking to friends and
reading are vital for kids.
So how can you strike the right balance in your house?
Start by learning about what technology is around. You can do your own
research and talk to your children and other parents. Think about what is
good about each device. And think about what you will need to limit or
manage, based on your child's age.
It's also a good idea to put some rules in place. Let your kids know what they are allowed to use
and when they can use it. Discuss this as a family so that your kids can have a say too.
Triple P Juggling Work & Family
Trying to juggle the demands of work and family can be very tough, but when you get the balance right
life will feel a lot easier.
Too much pressure from either work or family can seriously affect our lives and the lives of those around
us. When work stress spills over into home life, we might argue more, have problems with our relationships
and suffer health problems too.
Stress from home can impact your work in the same way. You might even struggle to do your job properly.
So how can you get the balance right? A good rule to start with is that when you are at home your family is
your focus. And when you are at work your job is your focus.
At home, try to make your mornings run as smoothly as possible. If you start your day calmly then you
won't be bringing any stress from home to work.
Set some ground rules and put a leaving home routine in place. You can even teach your kids to do things
for themselves, like getting dressed.
At work, you should try to do hard tasks early in the day. By doing this you will be taking less stress home
with you at the end of the day.
Think of some ways to unwind and relax after work that aren't going to affect your family's evening routine.
Regular exercise and healthy eating can really help.

We offer the Ages and Stages Questionnaire for parents to use to give themselves a snapshot of
their childs development. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire SE offers parents a snapshot of
their childs development in the Social Emotional area. If you wish to access the ASQ or the
ASQ-SE, please ask a staff member to help you.
What Is the Ages and Stages Questionnaire?
This is a simple questionnaire that the parent fills out at home. It is based on the age of the child
and asks specific questions based on the childs development in the following areas:

down or flying kites)
Dinosaur Park
4702-73 Street( Behind Superstore)- newer play structure with lots of opportunity to climb, large grassy
area for a picnic, there is no fence around this park.
Jubilee Park
51A, South if 47 Avenue Out door gym, new play structure, and lots of green space. Great place for a
wiener roast, or a birthday party.

Classic Outdoor Games
Hide and Seek: Everyone has played this one. Most parents have played with their kids, since
hiding and finding is a common interest of small children. Ive heard of all kinds of variations on this
game. Sometimes you count to twenty, sometimes ten, sometimes one hundred. Sometimes there is
a home base that you can run to and tag, becoming safe, sometimes you just wait to be found. The
general idea is that one person is it, that person closes his or her eyes and counts to a certain
number without looking and then he or she tries to find the
others.
Kick the Can: This game is a variation of tag and hide & seek. One person or a team of people are
designated as it and a can is placed in the middle of the playing area. The other people run off and
hide while the it covers his or her eyes and counts to a
certain
number. It then tries to find everyone. If a person is
tagged by it, they go into a holding pen for captured
players. If one of the un-captured players manages to
kick the can, the captured players are released. The
game is over once all the non-it players are in the
holding pen.
The Wild Network An App for Families
The Wild Network is on a mission to re-wild childhood. We are a collaborative venture, a network of
thousands of people and organizations with a collective vision to re-wild childhood, grow Wild Time
(time outside) and help kids thrive in the 21st century. We provide support, tools, inspiration and
knowledge for adults, parents, schools and communities to help their kids lead nature-rich,
free-range childhoods.
Together we are building a unique hub that connects people interested in Wild Time with
organizations (big and small) and innovations (existing and new) to help provide it.
Wild Time can be taken on any doorstep, anywhere from the middle of the city to the remotest rural
countryside. Theres all kinds of Wild Times to be had, from a few minutes to hours and days. You
can search the Wild Times here for ideas or share your own ideas to help others. Get outside and
stay wild.
There are many ideas on this website or app , if you have 30 minutes, an hour etc. to be outside
and to enjoy nature with your children.
