Montage

Description:
An insperational montage made by the blending
of two or more images, and the use of
typography.
Date:
5/28/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn to manage Photoshop layers.
Blend images together smoothly, using masks.
Apply appropriate typography. Use filters.
Process:
I place one picture for the background to fit
8.5x11. I then placed the second image on top
of the first image and added a mask to blended
the two pictures. With black paint and a 100%
opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the
hard image edges. With a larger black brush
fluctuating between 60 and 30 percent opacity,
I blended the image into the background , so it
looks like it is melting into the scene. I added
two contrasting fonts and colors to the text to
make it pop. I made some words in all capitals.
I changed the curve levels to make the picture
more faded and blend better.

Logo

Description:
Three logo variations for the same company.
Date:
6/4/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or
personal image.
Process:
This assignment was really hard to create in
Adobe Illustrator. Even though it was hard
I am happy with my design. I came up with
a few ideas and it was hard narrowing it
down to my draft. After getting 10 peoples
opinions I picked the two that everyone like
best and I combined them. I combined the
dream catcher icon from one logo and place
it behind the other logos that everyone liked
the most. I played around with the fonts and
color schemes to see witch worked best.
I manipulated the text by holding ALT and
hitting the arrow keys until it looked like what I
wanted. I arched my words at 40% to fit nicely.

Letterhead

Description:
Matching letterhead and business card
designed using a personally created logo.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal
image. Design consistent layouts for a business
card and letterhead.
Process:
I created the logo using simple Circle I created
in Adobe Illustrator. Then I picked my font that
I felt worked well with the design. Then I used
the pen tool to make anchor points to create
the elongated J to attach to the inner circle.
I also used ALT and the arrow keys to make
the J and D closer to each other. Once the
logo was created, I opened a page in InDesign
document and placed my logo .AI file into
this document. I place it in the left corner and
dragged it to fit the page 100%. I made sure
to keep it at least .5in away from the edges.
I Made a text box so I could type my contact
information into it. I positioned my text in a
straight line at the bottom of the letterhead. I
made my contact information 14 pt. I added in
a couple tiny circles I created to break up the
contact information and to get some repetition.
I also added a long line right on top of the text.

Buisness Card

Description:
Matching letterhead and business card
designed using a personally created logo.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or
personal image.
Design consistent layouts for a business card
and letterhead.
Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign.
Process:
On my second page I placed my logo. I
then copied/pasted the logo and contact
information onto this page. I kept the logo
about the same size but made my contact
information 9pt . I made sure that no important
information came any closer than 1/8in from
the edges. I didnt use the line on top of the
text in the business card because it didnt look
correct. I tried to keep the letterhead and
business card almost identical. I also enlarged
the logo to fit right in the middle of the
buisness card and have the text be off to the
bottom right corner.

Brochure

Description:
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure.
Date:
7/9/16
Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png
for a web page.Write content to describe
the process of creating your logo and how it
appeals to a target audience.Acquire a working
knowledge of HTML and basic understanding
of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Process:
I created a brand new logo in illustrator using
the pen tool to draw a high heel shoe and
transferred it to InDesign. I set up an offset
fold in Adobe InDesign. I place my logo on the
front side at the top of the page above a black
bar to break it up. I also added a picture to
the front of the brochure and copied it three
times to create repetition. I was also using the
threes rule. I formed a triangle over all three
images to create a look with a little dynamic.
I then added a few black bars to create more
clean repetition. Inside the brochure I added
a title and changed the color to be brick to
make it pop and fit in with my color scheme.
I used a picture that I cut out the background
of in photoshop using the quick selection tool
for the center of the page. I then used the
refine mask dialogue box to smooth, feather,
shift edge and apply contrast to the outline of
the shoes. This tool smoothes out the picture
so there arent harsh edges. I added a grey box
behind the picture as the background of the
whole page. I then put in the body copy and
wrapped it around the center picture.

Flier

Description:
Black & White promotional flier to promote a
graduate leadership conference.
Date:

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 07
Lindsey LeFevre
Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign
Objectives:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate
typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve
basic flier layout.
Create a project folder with image, logo and
InDesign document to keep links intact.
Process:
First I created four sketches of my layout
design. Then I used my sketches as a guide line
to create this layout in Adobe InDesign. I used a
white to dark scale gradient to create depth in
this flier. I also emphasized my title by giving it
a different font then the rest of the words and
I placed the picture on top to create a good
focal point. I left some white space and kept
my body copy small. I was given the image,
logo, and content for this flier.

Event Ad

Description:
A color full-bleed event ad to promote a
fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a
scanner.
Date:

Program(s)/Tools:
Microsoft Word
Epson Scanner
PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)
Objectives:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design
Use text boxes for layout in Word.
Insert and edit images in Word.
Process:
I found a picture on google that I scanned in
and placed on a word document. Since the
picture covered most of the page I made the
picture fit the full size of the paper. I moved
the picture to the back to the txt can lay on
top of the picture. Then I added text boxes
for my body text. I also added a text box for
my title. I added in a few rectangle slim lines
under the things I wanted to emphasis that are
important. Then I played around with the body
txt color until I found the one that fit best. I also
added rectangles on the top to match my color
scheme.

Web Page

Description:
A web page designed to showcase a personally
created logo.
Date:

Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for
a web page.
Write content to describe the process of
creating your logo and how it appeals to a
target audience.
Design a web page using HTML to display a
logo and content.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and
basic understanding of CSS.
Identify hex colors for web design.
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to
attach as one file.
Process:
I created this web page using only
TextWrangler. After I marked up all my content
and inserted my image, I attached a pre-made
CSS document to my HTML. I then used the
colors from my logo as the colors for my
web page. I found these colors by opening
Photoshop and using the eyedropper tool. I
also changed my fonts to Times New Roman
and Verdana. I declared some backup fonts just
in case the viewers browser didnt have these
fonts. I also used padding around the logo and
text so that they would not be too close to the
edge of the web page.

Imaging

Description:

Program(s)/Tools:
Canon PowerShot Camera
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn basic photography skills.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image,
then download it.
Size and crop the image.
Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and
saturation levels.
Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the
image.
Desaturate the selected portion of the image.
Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image.
Process:
I first took several picture of the fire pit. I
tried by best to get good lighting and sharp
focusThen I formulated my plan by choosing
a color scheme that could work well with my
picture. I decided on triadic. I used a digital
camera Then in Photoshop I used these
specific editing techniques: levels, sharpness,
saturation, color balance, blurred background,
and gradient mapping. Then I design an 8.5x11
portrait layout that including my photo, a quote
for the text, and repeating design elements.
I incorporate my color scheme title, color
swatches, and color names into my design. I
used the eye dropper tool to match my colors
exactly. I loved how I changed the color of
the fire to be more red and match my color
scheme. I used the threes rule for my chairs
and at the top to demonstrate my color swatch.
