14. Conditions of admission
The Master in Human-Computer Interaction programme is designed for
students with a Bachelor level of education, who have a strong interest
in interactive systems and a background, in or related to:
Informatics;
Design;
Social sciences.
International applicants whom English is not native language are
required to provide a proof of their English language proficiency. One
of the following is accepted:
FCE (First Certificate in English): A;
CAE (Certificate in Advanced English): C;
CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English): C;
IELTS (International English Language Testing System): 5.5;
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign language) paper version: 525,
internet based: 70, computer-based: 196 (Tallinn University Code
number is: 0449);
CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages:
learning, teaching, and assessment): B2.
Exceptions are made only for applicants who completed their previous
studies fully in English.

objectives
The goal of the programme is to prepare human-computer interaction
experts. These are specialists that understand and create technology that
harmonizes with and improves human capabilities, goals, and social
environments through interdisciplinary research and education in
computer science, design and behavioral social sciences.

development of easy to use, appealing and thoroughly thought through
software and technical systems

Elective studies module consists of elective subjects that can be selected
according to personal interests and topic of master thesis.
23. Graduation terms
In order to graduate, the student shall complete the study programme in
the given volume, which includes passing all compulsory courses and
compiling and defending the Master_s thesis in English. As an
additional requirement for students who have been admitted until
2015/2016 the foreign language proficiency according to the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages shall correspond to
C1 level.

Title: Core Courses: Shaping Experiences

Objectives
The objective of this module is to provide critical knowledge on human perceptual,
cognitive and emotional processes in order to analyze existing multimodal HCI
applications and create new ones taken to account specifics of these processes. Such
new applications could be described as optimal in terms of sensory, cognitive or
emotional experience.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to:
- understand human perceptual, cognitive and emotional processes shaped by digital
media (including Virtual and Mixed environments) and HCI applications;
- critically analyze existing HCI applications from the perspective of perceptual
optimization, cognitive load or optimal emotional experience;
- use physiology-based, implicit interaction paradigms;
- design new HCI applications that adapted from perception, cognition or emotional
experience perspective.

Assessment of the
module
The master thesis will be evaluated by a defence committee, which will base the
evaluation on the thesis as well as the defence process. The master thesis defence
session is open to the public.
