Reflection

This student perception survey from a YSU teacher's class showed overwhelmingly positive results. All 20 students agreed that the teacher cares about them, is nice, helps them know what to do, listens when the teacher instructs, explains things well, and makes sure they understand. A few students sometimes felt the class was too challenging or not directly relevant to their lives. The teacher learned they need to ensure all students stay busy and understand why they are learning material. They were pleased most students feel cared for and will continue treating students with respect.

What did you learn about yourself? What will you do differently for the unit and for
student teaching?
After looking at the results from this assessment, I learned that there were a few specific
areas that I need to focus on more. In the challenge section, some students answered maybe for a
few of the questions. This tells me that for future lessons, I need to make sure that the students
are challenged within their zone of proximal development more. They need to know what they
are doing and why they are doing it. In future lessons, I will ensure that all students stay busy
and understand exactly why they are learning what they are learning. I also learned that most of
my students feel as though I am helpful in the room and that I truly care about them. I am glad to
see those results because that is very true, I do care greatly about my students. I respect them and
treat them fairly and equally. This is something that I will continue to practice throughout my
career.
