Joseph Plateau
Invented the Phenakistoscope in 1832
Phenakistoscope was the first device to show the illusion of a moving
image
The Phenakistoscope was made by two disks, one disk with small windows
to look through and the other with images all around the disk. When
rotated at the right speed it would create the illusion that the image Is
moving.
This was the first step into creating the cinema.
William Horner
Invented the zoetrope in 1834
It works by having a cylinder with small windows all the way around in the
upper half of the cylinder and on the inside of it there are the pictures on
the lower half. When spun around and looking through the windows the
illusion of a moving image is created.
Emile Reynaud
Invented the Praxinoscope in 1877
As the successor of the zoetrope it improved on the way it was used.
Instead of using windows there were mirrors on the inner cylinder which
reflected the image off of the outer cylinder. This created a brighter and
less distorted image compared to the zoetrope.
