Home Literature: I Have A Feeling of Unease, That Has Snatched Away Restful Sleep

The poem describes a feeling of unease and loss that has taken hold of the speaker's mind. It has grown like a cobweb, entangling their thoughts and refusing to leave. The speaker is bewildered, filled with dread, and unable to recognize their surroundings. They question where they are and what has happened to the place they once knew, feeling like they no longer want to live in this strange new environment that has been cast in unfamiliar, ominous shades.

And planted doom in my mind.

It is at the pit of my being,
Refusing to leave me.
It has grown and spread
Its tentacles around my mind
Like a cobweb that entangles an insect;
Ready for the spider to devour.
Bewilderment, dread and all shades of unease
Are swirling around.
And I find that I had not envisioned
The new black shade
The green fields or the blue sky now wears.
The music of the rain I cannot hear.
I hear a noise that is foreboding, fearsome.
I cannot recognise the sunshine or the shadows;
Where is this place?
This is not the place where I have been living.
This is not the place where I would want to live.
Where am I now?
Where am I?
