Net Damage - Infiltrating into Jinteki
After the original infiltration, big corporations judged it as a complete success. A ridiculous fee
for the operatives was all the cost that they had to face for ruining CyberSolutions, Inc. and
keeping their synthetic humanoid patents intact. But they did not count with the most powerful
currency on the net: the fame.
All of the operatives became quite renowned, and they soon found new, similar jobs. But the
target changed. With only those megacorps owning the patents, those were the objectives.
There were tons of little companies willing to risk their capital in order to get a fragment of
that knowledge. The last operation Mr. White has been informed implies obtaining some
critical information about project Nisei which is being developed by the feared Jinteki.
To play this variant, no additional components are required. Use the Download cards instead
of the Extract cards. Just apply the normal rules as usual, unless when the operatives are
about collect DF tokens (through Download, not Item cards). Then, apply the following rules.
Having access to the data is not free in Jinteki: their servers are protected! The operatives may
encounter ICE protecting data every time they collect DF tokens, but the probability is much
higher when the amount of data increases. When a player selects the Download action card,
the resolution comes as follows:
1. The player must choose the server which he is extracting data from. There are 3 possible
servers to run into: Archives (Arc), Research and Development (R&D) and Headquarters
(HQ). IMPORTANT: A player cannot choose HQ if they is not in a second floor room!
2. The player must roll the dice to state how many DF tokens they gets and if they is or is not
facing ICE protecting data. According to their choice of server, they must check the roll on
the table below (with the format number of DF tokens / ICE effect).

If a player encounters an ICE protecting data, they have to break it or solve its effects. Players
can break Jinteki ICE by renouncing to X random DF tokens that they have, where X is the
number obtained in the dice divided by 2 (rounded up). If ICE is not broken, its effects are
triggered as they are detailed in the next page.

Net damage X: players have to place X Action cards of their choice face-up in front of
them. They cannot use that Action card until they recover it. Place 2 DF random tokens
onto it. Retreat a DF token from each card affected by Net damage at the end of every
turn. Immediately recover a card affected by Net damage when it has no DF tokens onto it.
If an operative has 6 or more DF tokens onto his Action cards, he becomes Wounded.
Brain damage X: copy the Net damage solving but place 4 DF tokens over the Action card.
The operative is immediately Wounded.
Proximity +X: immediately increase the Proximity dial (not the Alarm dial) by X.
After solving ICE effects, players collect the amount of DF tokens indicated in the table from
the room they are in. As usual, if there are not enough DF tokens players will just take the
available ones.
Players obtaining the Nisei files result take the Prototype special card. It is worth 15 zettabytes
and has not its normal effect. Players with the Nisei files can move 1 extra Room when playing
the Advance or Retreat card, but will also have to place 1 extra DF token onto their Action
cards if those are affected by Net damage or Brain Damage.
Prototype special card cannot be gained in any other way while playing this variant.
To start the game with this variant, it is recommended:
-
To set the Alarm dial to -1 (instead of 0)
To deal 6 Item cards to each player (instead of 4)
Some Items may be used in a different way when playing this variant. Players must agree in
allowing this use of Items before starting the game.
-
Items that allow players to destroy NPC cards, Lab Workers or Tech Locks: all these Items
can be discarded to cause Net damage 1 to another operative in the same room or in an
adjacent one.
Items that allow players to move: all these Items can be discarded to immediately recover
1 Action card affected by Net/Brain damage (no matter how many DF tokens are onto it).
Items that allow players to collect DF tokens: all these Items can be discarded to
automatically turn the operative card to the Healthy side.
