Introduction
This experiment is purposed to
investigate the Newtons second law
of motion using the system called
Atwoods Machine, a device used to
demonstrate
the
principles
of
acceleration. Using this machine, it is
possible to measure the acceleration
accurately.
Our
objective
is
to
determine the force, mass and
acceleration.
THEORY
The
Atwoods
machine
is
consists of two masses (m1 and m2)
over a pulley. If the two masses are
equal in mass then there is no motion
in the machine. If the two masses
have different mass then acceleration
can
be
measured
accurately
depending on the mass of the two.
Atwoods machine is very useful
device to determine the acceleration
of both masses. The formula of the
acceleration of two masses is:
a=g
m1m2
m1 +m 2
(1)
Where: a = acceleration
g = acceleration due to gravity
m1 and
m2 = mass
