Hackingatcloseintervals(50to70mmcentertocenter)withbushhammerorwith
achiselandhammerandthenwashitthoroughlywithwater.Thiswillroughenup
theconcretesurfacesandensureagoodbondisprovidedfortheplaster.
Whenconcretesurfacesaregreasyoroily,washingwithacidmaybedoneafterthe
walliswettedwithwater(usingasolutionofonepartmuriaticaciddilutedin1020
partsofwater).Afterthisacidcleaning,washthesurfacethoroughlywithwaterto
removeallthetracesofacid.
Note:Thissecondwashingistoremoveallacidtraces,sothatthealkalinitydoesnot
reactwithacidcausingimpropersettingofcementandotherproblems.
Freshconcretesurfacesaretoberoughenedwithaheavywirebrushoraspecial
scouringtool.
Note:Formworkforconcretemeanttoreceiveplaster,shouldpreferablynotbegiven
anyoilcoating,asthesearelikelytoremainontheconcrete,interferingwithbondingof
theplaster.Caremustbetakentoremovetheoilcoating,beforeplasterisapplied.

Incasewetsandistobeused,checkforquantityofwaterinmortarandallowfor

Forstuccoplastering,aggregatetobethoroughlywashedsieved,handpickedto
removeunwantedcolouredaggregates,flakyparticles,whichwhenusedwillspoil
thequalityofplaster.
Preparethemortarinclearareainproportionasspecified.
Mixmortarinanumberofbatches,abatchbeingthequantity(orvolumeof
mortar),whichcanbeconsumedwithinnext2hours.

workingplatformsareinsertedinposition,andsanitaryfixturesarefitted(merging

Whilestoppingtheworkfortheday,doensurethesurfaceendlineiscutinclinedat
45degreesor60degrees.Whenstartingtheworknextday,jointhenewplastering
andoldplasteringwithneatworkmanship(sothatthejointisnotshowingup
badly).
Stoptheworkpreferablyincorners,jambs,stoppersoratgroovesetc.Thiswill
avoidcracksatjoints.Doensurethesejointsarefinishedneatly.
Roundtheedgesthantokeepsharp90degreeedges(pencilroundnamelyasmall
curvatureoflessthan5mmradius).Similarlyatthejunctionofceilingtowall,Do
roundoffthejunction.
