Marshfield, Vt

The Town of Marshfield re-elected Andy Perchlik to the Selectboard in a contested

race. Barbara Bendix was the other candidate nominated from the floor. Jim Barlow
was elected as Lister; Lois Burnham was not seeking re-election after having served
as lister for many many years. Patrick Healy was re-elected to the school board, and
Jon Groveman was also elected to the school board to fill the remaining year of the
term recently made vacant when Jack Hoffman resigned. The Fire Department
recognized Will Schwarz for his 20 years of service to the Fire Department. All
budget articles passed by voice vote. There was a discussion of what to do about
ambulance service; because of the declining number by volunteers, Cabot
Ambulance is having difficulty responding to all calls. The Town voted to support
them and appropriate the amount requested ($15,000) but will enter discussions
with East Montpelier Ambulance Service to pursue other options.

The Town spent the most time debating the article regarding Sanctuary Towns. The
article was amended to make a policy "advising" rather than "directing" town
employees, and to make the policy consistent with directions from the Attorney
General's office. This policy would be consistent with the law.

An amendment was proposed to change the term "employees" to "law enforcement

agents" after Town Clerk Bobbi Brimblecombe explained that no policy would allow
her to refuse a public records request (such a request would have to be complied
with under state law). That amendment was eventually defeated because people
felt that it would defeat the purpose of the article.

The article was amended to include a request to the legislature to add immigration
status to the list of exemptions to the public records law.

The amended article was approved by voice vote.

The solid waste district article was approved 152 yes/60 no/4 blank

The Twinfield Union School budget passed 276 yes/186 no/6 blank
The Reserve fund passed 355 yes/103 no/10 blank
