Definition: Perceptual accentuation is the process that
leads us to see and perceive what we want
Who is affected by Perceptual Accentuation
Because this is a state of mind everyone is affected by
their own Perceptual Accentuation, therefore everyone's
is different. At the same time large scale example like
you saw in the video are similar.
Outside sources:According to Fr. Mathews Because of
perceptual accentuation we perceive and remember positive
qualities more than negative ones in self or others.
Examples of how it relates to Ferris
Towns People and classmates
Ferris himself
Ferriss parents
Ferriss sister

Self-presentation, also known as impression management, is the use of behaviors to intentionally
regulate the impressions that observers have of oneself (Lewis, 2005)
-Social rewards and consequences, self-esteem and self concept are all affected by the use of these
strategies.
Impression Management Strategies used by Ferris

ex: rides, phone call with Cameron, access to car
Image-confirming:You want to be recognized for who you are and so sometimes you communicate to
confirm your self-image (Devito, 2013).
ex: Life of the party, prankster (skipping school)

role in our everyday life consciously and subconsciously.
-These strategies and theories all relate to everyone,
whether we know we are doing it or not. Self-perception is
deeply important to everyone so it is important to
understand how and why we use these.
