EQUIPMENT AND APPARATUS
A. List of Equipment and Apparatus and its Uses
Apparatus Use or Function Type
1. Water and chalk They were mixed together to form a slurry. The Major
mixture is the one under study.
2. Mortar and Pestle A mortar is a vessel in which substances are grinded Minor
or crushed with a pestle. A pestle is a tool used to
crush, mash or grind materials in a mortar.
They were used to grind/pulverize the chalk.
3. Plate and Frame Filter press is common equipment for filtration and Major
Filter Press separation. The slurry is pumped into the filter plates
and filter frames which forms the chamber, and with
the pressure, filter cake will be formed in the chamber
and filtrate will flow out through the outlet of the filter
plates.
4. Digital Balance The digital mass balances in the laboratory are very Major
sensitive instruments used for weighing substances to
the milligram level.
It was used to weigh the chalk in the experiment.
5. 1000 ml beaker A beaker is a common container in most labs. It is used Minor
for mixing, stirring, and heating chemicals. Most
beakers have spouts on their rims to aid in pouring.
It is used to measure the volume of water that was
poured into the agitation tank.
6. Feed Tank equipped It is a container equipped with a motor driven mixer Major
with mixer which allows the mixture that is fed to attain a
homogeneous phase.
7. Stopwatch A watch with a digital display that can be started and Minor
stopped at will for exact timing.
It was used in measuring the time for every 200 ml of
filtrate recovered.
8. Suction Pump A common pump wherein the liquid is put into motion Major
through the use of pressure and a piston. In such
device, the said fluid is pushed into the partial vacuum
and the piston allows a unidirectional flow and
prevents reflux to occur.
9. Filter Papers They are inserted in the filter plates to aid in the Major
filtration process.
