Symm2 to the Synchronous target Symmetrix, host2 to the Synchronous target host ; Symm3 to the
Asynchronous target Symmetrix and host3 to the Asynchronous target host

2. Some steps involve the license database and options files on your host. Please do not modify any of
these files. If a modification is needed consult the instructor

Step Action

GENERAL INFORMATION WHENEVER YOU LOG IN TO A HOST

After logging into a host using your group username (e.g. sun1) and password, give yourself
super user privileges by typing:

# su

When prompted, enter the root password provided by the instructor

Type in the shell (user interface you are familiar with) of your choice. Choose one from ksh, sh,
csh, tcsh and bash. Not every shell is available on each host.

Example:

# tcsh

Verify if the SYMCLI executables directory is in your path. If not, use the following commands to
include the directory

# echo $PATH

Is the directory /usr/symcli/bin included in the PATH? _________

If not add /usr/symcli/bin to your PATH

For csh, tcsh: # set path = ($path /usr/symcli/bin)

For ksh, sh: # PATH=$PATH:/usr/symcli/bin

# export PATH

For bash, ksh: # export PATH=$PATH:/usr/symcli/bin

EMC Education Service 71

Step Action

12 Assign recovery group ID

A recovery RDF group is an existing RDF group that connects Symm1 to Symm3
Since the source devices do not connect to R22 devices on Symm3, a recovery RDFG name is
needed in case a link has to be established between Symm1 and Symm3.

In your lab setup the recovery group number should be the RDF group that is 30 higher than the
synchronous RDFG

Example:

ERDFG# Recovery RDFG #

12 42
14 44
16 46
18 48
20 50
22 52
24 54
26 56

host1# symcg cg <starcg> set recovery_rdfg <recovery rdfg#> -rdfg

<Symmid of Symm1>:<ERDG on Symm1>

Example:

host1# symcg -cg hp1star set -recovery_rdfg 42 -rdfg 80:12

12 View the composite group

host1# symcg show <starcg>

Verify that the information shown in the output matches the values entered in the two previous
steps. Below is an example:
..
1) RDF (RA) Group Number : 20 (13)
Remote Symmetrix ID : 000194900927
