UINTA COUNTY VETERANS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR A TAX CREDIT

A Veterans Tax Exemption is available for veterans who have resided in Uinta County for at least three years and who qualify to receive the exemption.
In order to qualify, veterans must have served during specific dates and/or campaigns. The veteran must be an honorably discharged veteran who served in the military
service of the United States, who was awarded the armed forces expeditionary medal or other authorized service or campaign medal indicating service for the United
States in any armed conflict in a foreign country.
The tax credit is also available to the surviving spouse of a veteran who met the criteria. An annual sworn claim must be filed with the county assessor each year before
the fourth Monday in May. For the complete list of eligibility contact the Assessors office: 225 Ninth Street, Evanston or call 307-783-0328.
Veterans Exemptions are now available to sign in the Uinta County Assessors Office. The following persons who have been residents for at least 3 years are
entitled to receive the exemption.
1. An honorably discharged veteran of the Indian Wars, Spanish American War, Filipino insurrection, Boxer Rebellion, Puerto Rico campaign or First World War;
2. An honorably discharged veteran of the Second World War, who served in the military service of the United States between December 7, 1941, and December
31,1946;
3. An honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War emergency, who served in the military service of the United States between June 27, 1950, and January 31, 1955;
4. An honorably discharged veteran of the Vietnam War emergency, who served in the military service of the United States between February 28, 1961, and May 7,
1975;
5. A surviving spouse, during widowhood or widower hood, of any person qualifying under this subsection or who died while serving honorably during the war,
conflict or period described in this section. The tax exemption shall be applied to property the title to which is held by the surviving spouse or to property which is
the subject of a trust created by or for the benefit of the surviving spouse;
6. An honorably discharged veteran who served in the military service of the United States, who was awarded the armed forces expeditionary medal or other authorized
service or campaign medal indicating service for the United States in any armed conflict in a foreign country.
7. A disabled veteran with a compensable service-connected disability certified by the Veterans Administration or a branch of the armed forces of the United States.
(b) The exemption for veterans is limited to an annual exemption of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) of assessed value.
(c) Except as provided in subsection (g) of this section, in order to receive the exemption provided by this section the claimant shall file an annual sworn claim
therefore on or before the fourth Monday in May with the county assessor of the county in which the property against which the exemption is sought is located
indicating:
1. Claimants right to the exemption;
2. That during the lifetime of the claimant or the claimants spouse, the claimant or the claimants spouse is listed as the owner of the property, that the property
is the subject of a trust created by or for the benefit of the claimant or the claimants spouse, or the claimant or the claimants spouse is listed as a purchaser
on a valid and effective contract for deed for the property and evidence of the contract for deed has been recorded with the county clerk;
3. The total tax benefits which the claimant has received under this section to the best of the claimants knowledge.
4. That the exemption for real property shall only apply to the principal residence of the veteran or qualifying surviving spouse;
5. That the exemption shall be claimed by the veteran or qualifying surviving spouse in not more than one (1) county in this state.

Veterans Day is not just another holiday...

Its a special holiday. Its a very special day.
Veterans Day is perhaps the single most important holiday
that our country observes.
It is a day to remind us that our fighting men and women
past and present deserve every American s heartfelt gratitude
and total respect for their service and sacrifice.
Remember this.
We are not a military at war. We are a nation at war.
So next time youre enjoying your favorite hobby, a family dinner,
fishing,a sporting event, a dance, driving down the road,
speaking your mind,being warm and comfortable in your home, or
participating in oneof the countless freedoms we as Americans
enjoy every day, think of thosewho have served or are serving
in our military here at home or abroad.
Offer them your sincere thanks and support. Think of
them every day and say a prayer for each and every one of them.
It s the least we can do. It s the right thing to do.
