PRACTICAL 3: Non-Destructive Test
Objective:
To gain experience with and understanding of the types, advantages and applications of various
NDT methods. To be able to choose the best NDT method for a given part.
Hand Tools and Materials:
1. Apron
2. Cloth
3. Gloves
4. Goggle
5. Metal
6. Stopwatch
7. Thinner
8. Developer (part number: SKD-S2)
9. Penetrant (part number: SKL-SP1)
Procedures :
1. The materials and hand tools are prepared together.
2. The thinner is sprayed to the metal on the deformed part which about five inches and it is
rubbed using a cloth.
3. The deformation then is being sprayed with a penetrant and the metal is rubbed using
another cloth.
4. The metal is let dry for 30 minutes.
5. The penetrant on the deformed part is removed using a thinner and rubbed with a cloth.
6. A developer is applied on the deformed part of the metal.
7. A scratch is identified on the deformation.
8. The developer applied is removed with a thinner.
9. The metal and the materials used is kept in the store.

Safety Precaution :
Chemical Safety
Some chemicals are highly flammable and explosive should work in well ventilated area
and wear safety equipments. Example: eye wear, gloves and other protective clothing.
Ultraviolet Light Safety
Too much exposure can cause eye and skin damage. Wear eye protection and full
clothing.
Analysis :
The scratch is found on the deformation.
No crack is identified
