Comprehensive Study on Modernization of
Yeluru Irrigation and Drainage System
India, being an agricultural country depends on Rainwater for its Irrigation purpose.
But availability of Rainwater throughout the crop-period is a rare case. Hence a well
designed Irrigation system is essential for good productivity. Floods and Droughts are
the two conditions that pose a problem in irrigation. In order to counter act the above we
construct hydraulics structures like dams, reservoirs and weirs etc.
In this project we deal about one such hydraulic structure, surplus weir. A Surplus
weir is a barrier across the horizontal width of a river that alters the flow characteristics
of the water and usually results in a change in the height of the river level. In this project
we are going to study the surplus weir that is being constructed at a distance of 6.75km
from the yeluru reservoir.
The main purpose of this weir is to raise the head level of the water in the yeluru
canal that is to be routed to yerravaram canal to provide water for about 9000 acres of
agricultural land.In this project, we deal with quantity estimation of steel and concrete of
the weir and the execution of the construction of the surplus weir.
