Learners are given an activity to find out the
writer from the clues.
CLUE 1: He is considered as the greatest writer in
English.
CLUE 2: He was born in England.
CLUE 3: He is known as the Bard of Avon.
CLUE 4: He has written many sonnets and plays like
“The Merchant of Venice”, “Hamlet”, “King Lear”,
“Macbeth” etc.
CLUE 5:
Tr: Who is this? This is Shakespeare, the greatest writer
of English.
Tr: So today we will be enjoying one of his most popular
plays “The Merchant of Venice”.
Teacher presents the book and gives it to the students to
have a look at.

In order to create a curiosity and enthusiasm in
learners teacher plays the trailer of the play. It helps to
hook the learners attention and to create a curiosity ,
enthusiasm and readiness to learn .

READ FOR YOURSELF AND FRAME
QUESTIONS
Teacher directs the learners to read silently the
story (page 182-183) and understand the theme and
meaning. They are also asked to frame five questions
based on their reading of the story and note it down on a
sheet of paper without the answers .
READY TO ANSWER
Teacher collects the sheets, shuffles them and
distributes it among themselves such that each student
gets a set of questions to be answered. They are also
asked to write their names on the paper. Then teacher
again shuffles it and gives for correction to someone else.
Students are rated on a five point scale and awarded
scores.

ROLE PLAYING
Teacher divides the class into four groups and
provides them the script of the casket scene and asks
each group to play it out. The enacting would be rated
and given points, which would add up their points in the
score chart.
LET THE STORYBOARD TELL IT
Teacher passes off the storyboard to each group.
Then she asks them to jointly prepare a short write up
on what they have understood. A representative from
each group should present it before the class. The best
presentation will be given points which adds up their
scores in score sheet.
LET’S RECOLLECT
Students are asked to discuss among themselves the
part of story they have learnt today scene wise.
Teacher assists them and scaffolds their understanding.
