Reflection IV by Nestor Vinluan
The medium used in the painting was acrylic on canvas. The painting is all about reflection.
For me reflection is when we see ourselves in the mirror. In this painting the top and bottom has
the same concept and form, both are trees but they are not identical because the placement of trees
is different. Just like in our lives, we need not to just look at our physical appearance. We need to
accept our flaws, know our strength and excel on it and be who we really are.
Man and Industry by Vicente Manansala
This painting is different from other paintings because it is a mixed media painting which
means it uses different paintings, drawing materials and methods rather than only one medium.
The medium used by Mr. Manansala for the painting was tempera, watercolor and collage on
paper. The painting shows different machineries and the technical advancement in human life. It
shows that the work is much easier because of the technology.
Bayanihan by Vicente Manansala
The medium used in the painting was oil on jute. The form of the painting was different
geometric shapes to form another shape or object. The painting has a good color blending and it is
relaxing to the eye. The color gives a peace ambiance. It shows how the people in the past are
simple and how the interact with each other. It also shows how people unite and support each
other.
Spoliarium by Juan Luna
Spoliarium is the most valuable painting of Juan Luna. The medium used in the painting
was oil on canvas. Spoliarium is Latin word referring to the basement of Roman Colosseum. The
painting was wide and tall with a size of 4.22 meters by 7.675 meters which is the largest
painting in the Philippines. The painting shows the fallen gladiators being dragged by soldiers.
The spectators of the left ardently await their chance to strip off the combatants of their metal
helmets and other armory. The right side of the painting present a somber mood which contrasts
the mood on the left.
