The poem describes a child swinging high in the air, imagining themselves as the king of everything they see around them - the fields, town, earth, and sky. As they reach the top of their swing, they feel powerful and in control. But then they begin to come back down, their reign as king coming to an end as their swing takes them back down to the ground.
