1) What is SCBA, What is EEBD ,IT CONTENTS.

Self contained breathing apparatus, 1200-1400 litrs of compressed air ,pressure 200
– 300 bar . duration of use 30 minutes. Gives alarm after 20 minute of use.
Use Enclosed space entry, rescue person, fire fighting purposes.
EEBD . CAN BE USED ONLY FOR ESCABE. CONTENT 400 LITRS OF COMPRESSED AIR. Duration
10 minutes. Kept in different escape places in ER,P.ROOM AND ACCOMODATION. Location of
SCBA, EEBD SHOULD BE MENTIONED IN FIRE PLAN.
2) SAFETY PRECAUTION TO AVOID FIRE IN er.
a) ER to be kept cleand.
b) Before starting any work safety check list to be filled up.
c) No leakage of oil, and exht gases
d) All alarm and trips to be tested regularly.

a) In tanker pump room is enclosed apace. Need enclosed space permit before entry.
b) Fan and light switch interlock.fan should start 5minutes before switching on lights.
c) Pump casing high temp alarm, high-high temp trip.
d) Pump bearings high temp alarm, high-high temp trip.
e) Pump bulk heads high temp alarm, high-high temp trip
f) Pump room bilge high level alarm.

C) AFTER INFORMING TRY TO FIGHT THE FIRE BY OPERATING PORTABLE EXTINGUISHER.
D) IF NOT POSSIBLE TO FIGHT THE FIRE EVACATE THE ACCOMODATION.
E) ONCE FIRE ALARM STARTED, CREWS TO BE MUSTERED IN THE MUSTER STATION.
F) AS PER THE DUTIES VENTILATION, BLOWER FLAB WILL BE CLOSED. ELECTRICAL POWER
SHOULD BE OFF FOR THE PARTICULAR DECK. BOUNDRY COOLING SHOULD BE STARTED BY
STARTING FIRE PUMP.
G) IN CASE OF PASSENGER SHIP SPRINGLER SHOULD BE STARTED AUTOMATICALLY.
H) Rescue if the injured person by entering two persons with fire man’s out fit with the
charged hose , wearing SCBA , stretcher,
I) Fight the fire entering two persons FROM THE ATTACK PARTY with fire man’s out fit with
the charged hose , wearing SCBA ,. Next two persons should be kept ready for fighting.
J) Fire can be extinguished by effective drill and to follow similar procedure.

5 %.
D) CCR, IT SHOULD HAVE A CONTINOUS RECORDING DEVICE .
E) IF THE LINE O2 CONTENT EXCEEDS 8% , IG WONT GO TO CARGO TK. IT WILL GO TO
ATMOSPHERE.

21. PAINT LOCKER SOLAS REQUIREMENTS.

A) IT SHOULD HAVE FIXED FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM ( SPRINGLER, OR CO2, FOAM) IN ADDITION
TO PORTABLE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM.

B) IT SHOULD HAVE FIRE DETECTION SYSTEM

C) IT SHOULD HAVE EXPLOSIN PROOF LAMP, EXT BLOWER. PAINT LOCKER SHOULD BE

A) PV VALVE IS IN INDIVITUAL TANK. IT IS A SAFETY RELEASE FOR HIGH PRESSERE AND


VACUUM SIDE IT WILL TAKE THE AIR FROM ATMOSHPHORE. TO AVOID THE TK COLLAPSE.

23) PV BREAKER AND ITS FUNCTION.

A) PV VALVE IS AMOVING VALVE , IT MAY GETS JAMMED IF IT IS NOT MAINTAINED .


PV BREAKER IS COMMON TO ALL TANKS CONNECTED IN THE IG LINE.

B) THE CONTENT IS WATER WITH ANTI FREEZING GLYCOL. , THE PRESSURE RANGE IS 2100 MM
– 700 MM OF H2O COLUMN. IF THE PRESSURE EXCEEDS WATER COLUMN WILL GO OUT
AND PRESS WILLL BE RELEASED. IN CASE OF VACUUM IT WILL SUCK THE WATER AND
ATMOSPH AIR WILL BE SUCKED IN.

24) BLOWER CAPACITY.

A) E.R BLOWER CAPACITY. ER AIR VOLUME SHOULD CHANGE ATLEAST 10 TIMES/HR.

B) PR BLOWER- AIR VOLUME SHOULD CHANGE ATLEAST 20 TIMES/HR

C) IG BLOWER CAPACITY SHOULD BE 120 % OF CARCO CAPACITY.

25) INTER LOCK IG- CARGO PUMP.

IG DECK PRESSURE FALLS BELOW+100 MM OF H2O COLUMN CARGO PUMP CAN NOT BE
STARTED,

26) VPEC ( VAPOUR EMMISION CONTROL SYSTEM)

A) AS PER MARPOL TO AVOID AIR POLLUTION EVERY TANKER SHOULD HACE VPEC SYSTEM IN THE
SHIP.

B) WHILE LODING CARGO VAPOUR SHOULD NOT RELEASE TO ATMOSPPHERE.

C) IT HAS TO DISCHARGE TO SHORE VIA FIXED PIPE LINE.

D) DISCHARGE VAPOUR 02 CONTENT SHOULD BE LESS THAN 8%. ABOVE 8% IT WILL GIVE ALARM.
NO TEMINAL WILL ALLOW IF THE 02 EXCEEDS 8%.

27) GAS FREEING OF COT.

A) AFTER CARGO DISCHARGE . DEPENDING UPON THE CARGO, OR IF TK INSPECTION, REPAIR OR DRY
DOCKING THEN GAS FREEING WILL BE CARRIED OUT.

B) BEFORE GAS FREEING EXPLOSIVE GAS NEED TO BE CHECKED. IT SHOULD BE BELOW LEL OR 1%.

C) IF LEL IS MORE ,THE TANK NEEDS TO BE PURGED OUT BY INERTING UNTIL THE LEL FALLS BELOW
1%.

D) ONCE LEL IS LESS THAN 1% , THEN GAS FREEING CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY GAS FREE FAN OR BY
HYDRO BLOWERS. . UNTIL THE TK 02 SHOULBE 20.9%
28. WHAT SHOULD BE THE LENGTH OF FIRE HOSE
A. LENGTH OF FIRE HOSW MINIMUM 10 METR, BUT NOT MORE THAN 15 M IN FOR
ER,20 M IN OPEN DECK , MAX OF 25 MTR IF THE BREATH IN EXCESS OF 30 METR.
29. WHAT SHOULD BE THE MATERIAL OF FIRE HOPSE.
IT SHOULD BE NON PERISHABLE MATERIAL.
30. WHAT SHOULD BE EMERG FIRE PP CAPACITY
A) IT SHOULD BE MINIMUM 40 % OF THE CALCULATED CAPACITY ( Q = Cd2 ).
B) minimum of 25 m3 /hr.FOR PASSENGER SHIP LESS THAN 1000 GRT. FOR CARGO SHIP
ABOVE 2000 GRT.
C) FOR CARGO SHIP LESS THAN 2000 GRT, MINIMUM OCAPACITY OF 15 M3/HR.

31. LOCATION OF THE EMERG FIRE PP.


IT SHOULD BE OUTSIDE ER, ( IT CAN BE IN THE STEERING FLAT OR IN TUNNEL ,
SEPERATED BY WATER TIGHT DOOR , A60 CLASS DOOR)
31. EMERG FIRE PP STARTING DEVICE,
A. ELECTRICAL DRIVEN THE BREAKER SUPPLY SHOULD COME FROM EMERG
GENERATOR, SO THAT IF MAIN SUPPLY FAILS, SUPPLY SOURCE FROM EMERG GEN;
B. IF DIESEL DRIVEN , IT SHOULD BE STATTED AT A TEMP OF 0 DEG C.
C. IF LOWER TEMP ANTICIPATED HEATING SYSTEM CAN BE PROVIDED FOR DIESEL OIL
TANK , APPROVED BY ADMINISTRATION.
D. FUEL TK CAPACITY TO BE SUFFNT TO RUN THE PUMP FULL LOAD FOR 3 HRS. +
RESERVE FUEL TO BE AVAILABLE OUTSIDE ER FOR CATEGORY A TO ENABLE THE PUMP TO
RUN FOR ANOTHER 15 HRS ( TOTAL 3 + 15 = 18 HRS )

32. AS PER SOLAS AT WHAT SMOKE DENSITY SMOKE DETECTOT SHOULD OPERATE.
IT SHOULD OPERATE BEFORE THE SMOKE DENSITY EXCEEDS 12.5%
OBSCURATION/METER, BUT IT SHOULD NOT OPERATE BELOW 2% OBSCURATION/METER..
