Ethylene Glycol PFD Process

This document describes a process for the catalytic production of 750,000 metric tons per year of monoethylene glycol (MEG) that achieves a conversion efficiency of 99%, compared to 90% for traditional processes. The process uses supported silver catalysts for the ethylene oxide reaction and halogenated organic phosphonium salts for the carbonation and hydrolysis reactions to produce MEG from ethylene, oxygen, and carbon dioxide at high yields.
