Slab Design One-Way

This document provides the design calculations for reinforcing steel in a one-way slab. It verifies that the slab satisfies requirements to be considered a one-way slab based on span ratios. It then calculates the minimum required slab thickness, distributed loads, moments, and required reinforcing based on the ACI code. The calculations show that 12mm diameter bars placed at 300mm centers are needed at supports and midspan to resist bending moments, and 10mm bars at 300mm centers are required as temperature reinforcement.

Design of Slab

one way
Live Load (refer to Chapter II table 205-1) NSCP 2010
= 2.4 kpa (maintenance access)

Dead Load (refer to Chapter II table 204-1 and 204-2) NSCP 2010
= 24 kn/cum (concrete)
= kn/sqm (ceiling)
= kn/sqm (flr finish)

slab La= 1.85 m

Lb= 4.45 m

A) Verify if one-way slab

M=la/lb < 0.5 (one-way slab)
M= 0.416 < 0.5 ok!

B) Compute the min lb thkness

h=La/ 24
h= 0.077 say 0.1 m

C) Compute the Factor Load (considering 1m strip along short direction)

DL= 2.4 kn/m
LL= 2.4 kn/m
w=1.4DL + 1.7LL
w= 7.44 kn/m

D) Check ACI limits (if all the limits does not okay, try again later)
a) LL/DL < 3 = 1<3 ok!
b) (l-s)/s < 0.2 = 0 < 0.2 ok!
c) loads are uniformly dist ok!

E) Compute the Moments using ACI coef

type C
Moment -Mu = max {(-wL^2/12)} = 2.122 knm
Moment +Mu = max {(wL^2/14)} = 1.819 knm
F) Efective depth:
d=h-concrete cover-ø/2
d= 0.074 m
d= 74 mm
G) Computing the steel reinforcement
Mu=øfc'bd²w(1-0.59w)
by derivation to get "w"
solve Preq= wfc'/fy and
Pmax=0.75[90.85fc'B600)/(fy(600+fy))
B=0.85-(0.05/7)*(fc'-30)
Pmin=1.4/fy
it should be:
Pmax > Preq > Pmin
if Preq < Pmin, then use Pmin for As=Pbd
determine Pcontrol=4/3*Preq
if Pcontrol < Pmin, then use Pmin

other Soln:
Mu= 2.122 knm (max or highest)
Ru=Mu/øbd²
Ru= 0.431 mpa
P=

P= 0.0015746
Pmin=1.4/fy 276
Pmin= 0.005072464
Pmax=0.75[0.85fc'B600)/(fy(600+fy))
B=0.85-(0.05/7)*(fc'-30)
B= 0.87
Pmax= 0.037863258
Pmax > P < Pmin
therefore use Pmin P= 0.005072464

Main Bars at Support (12mmø):

As=Pbd
As= 375.4 mm²
Reqd spacing (S) = 1000(Ab)/As
Ab=π/4*(øbar)²
Ab= 113 mm²
S= 301.1 mm say 300 mm

Max. Spacing Req'd by the Code:

a. 3h= 300 mm = 300 mm ok!
b. 450mm

Thus, use 12mm ø top bars @ 300 O.C. @ Supports

Mu= 1.819 knm (positive)
Ru=Mu/øbd²
Ru= 0.369 mpa
P=

P= 0.0013478
Pmin=1.4/fy
Pmin= 0.005072464
Pmax=0.75[0.85fc'B600)/(fy(600+fy))
B=0.85-(0.05/7)*(fc'-30)
B= 0.87
Pmax= 0.037863258
Pmax > P < Pmin
therefore use Pmin P= 0.005072464

Main Bars at Midspan (12mmø):

As=Pbd
As= 375.4 mm²
Reqd spacing (S) = 1000(Ab)/As
Ab=π/4*(øbar)²
Ab= 113 mm²
S= 301.1 mm say 300 mm

Max. Spacing Req'd by the Code:

a. 3h= 300 mm = 300 mm ok!
b. 450mm

Thus, use 12mm ø bottom bars @ 300 O.C. @ Midspan

Temperature Reinforcement bars (10mmø):

= Use 10mm Ө bar

Ast=0.0018bh
Ast= 180 mm²
Reqd spacing (S) = 1000(Ab)/As
Ab=π/4*(øbar)²
Ab= 78.5 mm²
S= 436.1 mm say 400 mm

Max. Spacing Req'd by the Code:

a. 3h= 300 mm = 400 mm not ok!
b. 450mm

Thus, use 10mm ø bottom bars @ 300 O.C. Temp bars

f Slab
note:
minus the half-width of Beam each side
to get Lb & La
B1= 0.15 m Ls= 2m
B2= 0.15 m Ll= 4.6 m
fc'= 27.6 mpa
fy= 276 mpa
ø= 0.9 b= 1000 mm
not ok!
