Freeboard Calculation

The document is an engineering calculation of the freeboard for a vessel called KAPAL TUNDA 2 x 1100 HP. It includes: 1) Calculation of the freeboard length as 25.08 meters based on the vessel's principal dimensions. 2) Calculation of the freeboard depth as 3.022 meters based on the vessel's molded depth and thickness of deck plates. 3) Calculation of corrections to the freeboard for factors like the vessel's coefficient of block, depth, and sheer. 4) A summary stating the calculated summer freeboard is 608 mm and a proposed freeboard of 800 mm is recommended based on construction and stability considerations.

KAPAL TUNDA 2 x 1100 HP

1 Principal Dimension:
Lwl : 26.36 m
Lpp : 25.08 m
B : 8 m
H : 3.8 m
d : 3 m

2 Freeboard lengh
Means 96% of the total length on a water line at 85% of the least moulded depth measured from the
top of the keel, or the length from the foreside of the stem to the axis of the ruder stock on the
waterline, if that be greater. In ships designed with a rake of keel the waterline on which this length
is measured shall be parallel to the designed waterline. The length (L) shall be measured in meters.

0.85 H  =  0.85 x 3.8

 = 3.23 m
Lwl at 0.85 H  = 26.36 m
0.96 Lwl at 0.85 H  = 25.31 m
Lpp at 0.85 H  = 25.08 m
Lf  = 25.08 m ~ freeboard (Ft) = 208 mm

3 Freeboard depth
The depth for freeboard (Df) is the moulded depth amidships, plus the thickness of the freeboard
deck stringer plate, where fitted, plus T x (L‐S)/L if the exposed freeboard deck is sheathed, where T is
the mean thickness of the exposed sheathing clear of deck openings.

Depth at 85 H  = 3 m
Thickness of freeboard   = 0.010 m
deck(stringer plate)
Thickness of keel plate  = 0.012 m
Df  = 3 + 0.010 + 0.012
 = 3.022 m

4 Correction for Cb
Displacement = 518.67 ton
3
V. displacement = 506.0195 m
Cb = V/(Lf x B x 0.85 H)
= 506.02/(25.08 x 8 x 3.23)
= 0.781
Correction = Ft x (Cb+0.68)/1.36
 = 223.4 mm

7 Correction For Depth
Correction  = (Df ‐ Lf/15) x R
 = 337.5 mm

8 Summary
i  = Tabular freeboard with correction for Cb = 223 mm
ii  = Correction for depth  = 338 mm
iii  = Correction for super structure and trunk = 0 mm
iv  = Correction for sheer  = 47.1mm

Summer freeboard  =  i+ii+iii+iv

 = 608 mm
Proposed with consideration of construction and stability, Fb = 800mm
