Anchroge Length Calculation As Per BS8110-1: Bar in Tension

This document outlines calculations to determine the required anchorage length of rebar in concrete piles according to BS8110-1. It calculates the anchorage length for rebar in tension and compression. For rebar in tension, it finds the required length is 379.6 mm, which is less than the maximum allowed of 700 mm. For rebar in compression, it calculates the required length as 960.9 mm, which satisfies the standard requirement of being less than 51 bar diameters.

Anchroge length calculation as per BS8110-1 :

Bar in tension :
Design anchroge bond stress fb = FS/∏Øel

Grade of concrete = 40 Mpa 2 of 2

Bond stress fb = ß*sqrt(fc)

For Deformed type-2 bars ß = 0.5 For bar in tension

fb = 3.16 Mpa

Pile tension capacity = 359 kN

Number of bars in piles = 10 No's

Capacity for single bar FS = 36 kN

Dia of the bar Øe = 20 mm

Length of the bar l = 180.8 mm

Enhancement factor for = 1.5

epoxy coated bars.

Anchorage Length = 379.6 mm < 700 mm, Hence Safe

Bar in Compression :
Design anchroge bond stress fb = FS/∏Øel

Grade of concrete = 40 Mpa

Bond stress fb = ß*sqrt(fc)

For Deformed type-2 bars ß = 0.63 For bar in compression

fb = 3.98 Mpa

Pile compression capacity = 1603 kN

Number of bars in piles = 10 No's

Capacity for single bar FS = 160.3 kN

Dia of the bar Øe = 20 mm

Length of the bar l = 640.6 mm

Enhancement factor for = 1.5

epoxy coated bars.

Anchorage Length = 960.9 mm

As per BS 811-1 Table 3.27 :

Tension Anchorage length = 38D < 51D, Hence Safe
