Entering the classroom: As students arrive, they will be asked to sign in, then put their bags and
coat in their designated cubbies. Then they will turn in their take home folder in the tray on the
teacher’s desk. After that, the students will find their assigned seat and begin the work that has
been set out for them. (Example of work for students would be to have the students trace a
laminated name card with one of the dry erase markers on the table.)
Transition after playtime: As playtime comes to an end, the teacher simply must start singing the
clean up song. Clean up, everybody everywhere. Clean up, everybody do your share. This
signifies that playtime is ending and gets the students ready to move onto the next subject.
Putting away books: Use both hands to carry your books. When putting the book back on the
shelf, make sure that the bind of the book is facing you.
Handling iPads or laptops: Hold the laptop and/or iPad with BOTH hands. When returning the
laptop and/or iPad to it’s docking station, be sure to plug it back in.
Raising your hand: When the teacher, or a friend, is talking and you have something that you
would like to share, simply raise your hand.
Bathroom Break: If you need to go to the bathroom, hold up the designated hand signal. (Two
fingers in the air, similar to a peace sign.)
Sitting on the carpet: Teacher sings the carpet song to ensure that the students are following the
rules. Are you criss-cross, are you criss-cross? Eyes on me, eyes on me? Hands in your lap!
Hands in your lap! Queitly, Quietly. The teacher will call each student to the rug by asking
them a question, and assigning each student a spot on the rug. This will be their spot on the rug
for the day.
Hand Washing Procedure: Turn on the water and wet hands first. Then, put soap on your hands.
Rub your hands together under the water while singing your ABC’s. Afterwards, turn the water
off and use only 2 paper towels to dry off your hands.
Name on your paper song: Teacher: Name on your paper! Students: First thing! Teacher:
Where does it go? Students: On top!
Line-up Procedure: Each student will have a “line buddy.” They will always line up beside their
line buddy. (The line leader will change daily, and the students will line up according to whoever
is in front based on their line buddy.) There will be a designated location for the students to start
their line. To signify that it’s time to line up, the teacher will sing the column song. Column!
Let’s make a column! Column, column! *clap clap clap* Column, column! *clap clap clap*
The students should be lined up by the time the song is finished.

Morning Routine: The students will have the same routine every morning after their beginning
desk-work. The students will do the calendar activty, school day number, days of the week, and
weather every day. This way, the students know what is going to happen every morning.
Attention-getting Procedure: 123, all eyes on me! Quiet Coyote, the teacher holds up a hand
signal until all of the students are quietly holding up the same hand signal, giving the teacher
their attention.
End of Class Procedure: The students will be called forward one by one to collect their take-
home folder from the teacher. After they get their folder, they will put their folder in their
backpack, which they will then bring back to their seat. Each student will have a free-reading
book of their choice. The students will remain in their seats with their book until their pick-up
person arrives. Then, they will leave the book on the table for the teacher to collect.
Throwing away trash: The students will keep all trash in a pile on their table. At the end of the
project, the teacher will come by with a trash can for the students to throw their trash in. If the
students have any additional trash, the teacher will pick it up as they walk by.
Pencil Sharpening Procedure: There will be a caddy on each table containing materials. There
will be extra pencils, so if a pencil is dull or broken, the student can just switch pencils.
Personal Electronic Devices: All personal electronic devices shall be left at home or in the
student’s backpack.
Early Finishers: If a student finishes their work early, they may get a coloring sheet from a folder
located on a nearby shelf. The crayons will be in a table caddy.
Getting the wiggles out: If students come back from lunch or recess a little too rowdy, then the
teacher will play a song and allow the students to dance it out.
Getting a tissue: Students will be allowed to get a tissue whenever they need one. Only one
student may get a tissue at a time.
Emergency: If you need a band-aid or cannot wait to use the bathroom, the student will hold up a
fist.
Transition Procedure: The teacher will ring a bell and announce to the students that there is only
5 minutes left before we move onto the next activity.
When procedures are not being followed: The teacher will walk by the student that is not
following the appropriate procedures and use proximity to re-direct their attention.
Free conversation: Students will be allowed to talk amongst one another while working only if
the teacher has background music playing.
