FIRST GRADING PERIOD
Lesson 4: Using divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10 to find the common factors of
numbers.
CONTENT: Number and Number Sense
CONTENT STANDARDS: The learner demonstrates understanding of divisibility.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learner is able to apply divisibility in Mathematical
Problems and real-life situations.
LEARNING COMPETENCY: The learner uses divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10 to find the
common factors of numbers.
Code: M5NS-Ib-58.1
Week 2: June 11, 2018
I. Objective: Uses divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10 to find the common factors of numbers.
Value Focus: Following Rules, Obedience
Prerequisite Concept and Skills
Basic Division Facts of numbers 2, 5 and 10
Odd and Even number
Skip Counting
Materials: Charts, Flash Cards, Power point Presentation, Real Objects
Reference: K to 12 Curriculum for Grade 5 (M5NS-Ib-58.1); Lesson Guide in Elementary
Math 5, pp. 48-51
II. Instructional Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Drill
Have an oral drill on the division facts. Use flashcards or games.
a. 248 – 2 = n b. 105 – 5 = n c. 520 – 10 = n d. 216 – 3 = n
2|Page
2. Review
Conduct a review on odd and even numbers. Provide examples and exercises for
this activity.
Give the first five multiples of the following:
a. 2 b. 5 c. 10
3. Motivation
A. Playing the boat is sinking.
Valuing: Did you participate in the game? How did you find the game?
B. Ask the pupils to enumerate the classroom rules and basic rules to be followed in
school or inside the classroom.
Ask: what are the probable causes, if they did not follow the rules. Emphasize that
rules are made to maintain peace and order and they make working on things
easier.
B. Developmental Activities
1.Presentation
Present the problem.
On a certain bakery, there were 230 monay breads to be placed on trays. The
baker wants to arrange them in either 2, 5 0r 10 rows. Would it be possible for him to
arrange the breads?
What is asked?
What are the given facts?
What operation to be used?
What is the Number Sentence or Mathematical Sentence?
What is the answer?
2.Performing the Activities
Group Activity 1: Checklist
Group 1. Checking the number that are divisible by 2 or has 2 as their factor.
__1. 284 __2. 461 __3. 244
Group 2. Checking the number that are divisible by 5 or has 5 as their factor.
__1. 2000 __2. 3924 __3. 4435
Group 3. Checking the number that are divisible by 10 or has 10 as their factor.
__1. 120 __2. 422 __3. 235
Ask them to explain their answers.
3. Processing the Activities
Jaira has 50 collected marbles. Can she share those marbles equally to 2 friends?
5 friends? 10 friends? What are the factors of 50?
(Call somebody to divide 50 by 2, by 5 and by 10)
3|Page
To solve the problem, you need to know if 2, 5, and 10 are factors of 50 or if 50 is
divisible by 2, 5 and 10.
4. All even numbers are divisible by 2 Rein
Any numbers that ends either in 0 or 5 is divisible by 5.
forci
Any number that ends in 0 is divisible by 10.
A whole number is divisible by a number if the whole number can be ng
the
exactly divided by the number.
Concept and Skill
After processing the skills, let the pupils answer the following exercise.
DIVISIBILITY TEST 50
By 2: Is the ones digit 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8? Yes
By 5: Is the ones digit 0 or 5? Yes
By 10: Is the ones digit 0? Yes
Group Activity 2. Encircle the number that is divisible by 2, 5 and 10.
Numbers divisible by: Given numbers
Group I: 2 10 25 33 148 600 126
Group II: 5 35 98 140 235 231 156
Group III: 10 18 20 170 136 230 400
Group Activity 3. Using a Venn Diagram.
Group I: 748 135 620
Group II: 912 605 830
Group III: 806 415 590
5. Summarizing the Lesson
Lead the pupils to master the divisibility rules by 2, 5 and 10.
Ask: How do we determine whether a certain number is divisible by 2? 5? 10?
6. Applying to New and Other Situations
Use divisibility rules to help you solve the following problems.
A. Using High Orderly Thinking Skills(HOTS)
Frances has a collection of 672 stamps. She wants to place the stamps in 2
envelopes. Can she place the same number of stamps in each envelope?
Why? How?
4|Page
The number of books in Karla’s collection is divisible by 2, 5 and 10. She has
more than 11 books and fewer than 25 books. How many books does Karla
have?
B. Using Real Objects
C. Assessment
A. Using divisibility rule, encircle the number that is not divisible by the given number
before each item.
(2)` 1. 128 276 393 492
(5) 2. 510 681 705 840
(10) 3. 970 1000 1,230 1,005
(2) 4. 2,579 3,152 4,538 5,714
(5) 5. 6,475 7,830 8,525 9,457
B. Write True or False.
(True) 6. All even numbers are divisible by 2.
(True) 7. If a number is divisible by 10 is also divisible by both 5 and 2.
(False) 8. If a number is divisible by 5, it is also divisible by 10.
(False) 9. 20 is the smallest number divisible by 2, 5 and 10?
(True) 10. 90 is the largest two-digit number divisible by 2, 5 and 10.
D. Home Activity
Remediation
Shade the number RED if it is divisible by 2, shade it BLUE if it is divisible by 5, and
shade the circle YELLOW if it is divisible by 2, 5, and 10.
E. Enrichment
1. Without actual computation, determine the divisibility of the following numbers. Put a
check (√) in the appropriate box/es.
Divisible by
2 5 10
155 √
250 √ √ √
908 √
