Kulliyvah of Engineering: End-Of-Semester E:Xamination Semester I, 2001/2002 Session

This 3-question exam for a dynamics course covers topics like: 1) Determining velocity and acceleration of an object moving in a circular path with varying speed. 2) Calculating speeds and forces in pulley and spiral motion problems. 3) Analyzing collisions, jumping between moving objects, and rotational motion problems involving wheels and hoisting gears. The exam consists of 7 questions, with students to answer any 6, and provides figures to draw free body diagrams for each problem. Instructions state to show all work and assumptions.

1. (a) Starting from rest, the motorboat travels around the circular path as shown in
Figurel.(a), p =50 m, at a speed v=(0.8 t) mis, where t is in seconds. Determine
the magnitude of the boats velocity and acceleration when it has traveled 20 m.

(b) lfblock A of the pulley system sho\\11 in Figurel.(b), is moving downward with a
speed of 1 m/s while block C is moving up at 0.5 mis, detennine the speed of block B
and the relative speed of block B ,vjth respectto A.
