Weekly Blog 3

The student learned about their target audience, potential platforms to share their production, and developed their characters further through research. They conducted surveys to gather primary data on their target audience and researched YouTube, TV, and Netflix as potential platforms. This helped them decide to use YouTube for its free access and ease of sharing. They also developed ideas for the main characters in their production based on research into the real people they are portraying. Test shoots of different shot types provided lessons on capturing emotion and surroundings that will inform their final production. The student recognizes they need to finish their test shoot analysis to stay on track.

WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

Week Three - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your From my research this week I learned about my target audience
research? and who I should be aiming my production at , when researching
this I learned how productions with similar target audiences to
mine did and what interested their target audiences, I also
learned about the platforms I could upload my production to.
YouTube and the TV are the two most important platforms for
new content by evaluating the different advantages and
disadvantages for each platform I would suit putting my
production on YouTube. I also learned about what my characters
are like through coming up with ideas to progress the characters
in my production, I learned more through thinking about the
characters what kind of characters I want in my production to
make it more personal and to make sense, I did this by thinking
about, their interests, their activities, and also what their
personalities are like. I learned about various techniques by doing
test shoots so that I could develop my skills and apply them to my
production. I did a close up, a medium shot and a wide shot I did
this to see what worked to achieve the results I wanted
and to see what didn’t work so that I could ultimately find the
right camera settings and ways to do the technique so that I
could get it right for my production.

How has the research into your target When looking at the target audience I a survey so that I have
audience helped you improve your primary research and I did secondary research online to then find
ideas? out more about my target audience and who I should be aiming
my production at. As my target audience is between the ages of
15-19 I had to look at what is appropriate for this age and also
what I would be allowed to put in my production. When doing
primary research, I sent out a survey to get responses on
important questions that will help me develop my idea. I asked a
few questions about they expect from a docudrama so I sent out
the survey to 15-19 I asked about what social media they use
and why to find out more about the habits of my target
audience and to see if they use any social media in a way that
would help promote my production which will be especially
useful when I need feedback.
How has the research into your When looking at the platforms I looked into YouTube, TV and
platform helped you improve your Netflix as they are three options that are worth considering when
ideas? publishing my production. TV, I found was not worth the cost as I
have no budget but even if I did, the slot would likely be very bad
an expensive TV slot would be slot would make it hard to get my
production out to the right audience and overall would not be
worth it. Netflix was also not a great option for me to produce my
production on as it again would cost a lot of money and I don’t
have a budget for this docudrama. YouTube on the other hand
was very useful and I will definitely be publishing my production
on there as it is free and anyone can access it making it easily
accessible to new people and my target audience and it is very
easy to share making it an effective, free and effective option for
getting my production out. I did do a survey where I asked
people what platforms they use to watch docudramas and then
why it would be good for me to use that sight.

How has researching characters and From researching my characters, I have a pretty good idea of
actors helped you decide who to who I want my characters to be and how I want them to be
cast? played by. I’m going to have two main characters obviously the
first one will be Jodie Chesney how is the person who I have
researched about and then the other one will be the person who
stabs her and as they haven’t arrested anyone yet for that
murder I will just have to make someone up who murdered her.
So, the person who I would think suites the role of Jodie is my class
mate Karolina Kaczorowska this is because Jodie was a very
loving and caring person and she also was a bubbly person. I feel
like Karolina will portray that role really well her herself is very
bubbly and caring. I’m also going have a few girl mates in this so
there could be a scene where she is a at friend’s house or that
she is walking with them somewhere but this can be layed by
anyone as they are not a relevant character. I then think for the
main guy in this I want them to be a “roadman” or like a chav.
This is because “roadman” is mostly known to be in gangs and
also, they hang around in large groups and typically get into
trouble. I thought that my friend Juras Povilaitis as he has a kind of
mysterious vibe that come from him and he is also has the perfect
voice. I am also having some guy mates for the main guy
character they need to also be “roadmen” as they need to be in
a gang and also posh boys wouldn’t hang out with gang
members so these people need to be selected carefully. I’m still
thinking of who these are going to be but I think I’m going to ask
James Ravenhill and Jacob Gardner.

What have you learned from your For my test shoots I focused on 3 different shots. The first one I
test shoots? How will you use these focused on was the close up, this is because I want to capture
ideas in your production? the raw emotion on the characters faces so that the audience
can relate to them and can try feel and see the emotion that the
character is showing. This will also be good to show the tense
scenes like when the girl gets stabbed. Another shot I looked at
was the medium shot, this is so that I can have two people on
scene and also when the girl is sat on there own you can see the
backgrounds and the surrounding of where she is. The last shot
that I looked at in my test shoots was the wide shot, this is again
so that you can see what is going on in the surroundings and so
that in the last few scenes for example I would have the wide
shot so that you can see that she is all alone and there is no one
that will be able to help.

What work do you need to complete I am not on track for this week as I still have a few bit I need to do
outside of lessons to stay on track? like doing finishing off the test shoot research and then I am on
track for this week

High Grade Tips

Research
● ‘Thorough research’ - include plenty of sources and detailed analysis of this information
● ‘relevant & coherent’ – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the Media
product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit it to
the first two weeks
● ‘accomplished & considered’ – all of the above referred to in your daily/weekly reflections
