Curriculum Guide
Content Standards:
The learners will demonstrate understanding of key concepts of circles and coordinate
geometry as a tool in applying their knowledge in their daily lives.
Performance Standard:
The learners will be able to create concrete geometric figures with creativity, perseverance
and accuracy.
Transfer Goal:
The learners will be creating geometric figures on the rectangular plane for them to exhibit
creativity, perseverance and accuracy.
Stage 1-Desired Results
Acquisition Goal:
To identify the essential parts of a circle.
To solve for the circumference, area and other problems about circles.
To appreciate the role of circles by creating a painting with reflection using the
“Circles-One of the Greatest Discoveries”.
Knowledge Tool
Identify the given parts of the circle by completing the table using the given figure
figure.
Parts of the Circle Answers
1. The Circle
2. Diameter
3. Radii
4. Chords
5. Semicircles
6. Minor Arcs
7. Major Arcs
8. Secant Line
9. Tangent Line
Process Tool
Find the circumference and area of a circle with the given measure. Use
π=3.1415 in solving and express your answer in hundredths form.
1. Diameter is 14cm
2. Diameter is 5 m
3. Diameter is 13.7
4. Diameter is 23
5. Diameter is x units
6. Radius is 11 cm
7. Radius is 17.2 m
8. Radius is 31.12
9. Radius is 47
10. Radius is 3x
Given the figure, answer the following questions using the given conditions.
1. If MP is 30 cm long, and the radius of the circle is 11 cm, what is the
length of JK?
2. What is the length of the radius if JK is 7 cm and MP is 26 cm?
3. How long is the radius of the circle if MK is 17 m and JK is 7 m?
4. Given MP is 18 cm, what is the shortest distance of the chord from the
center if the radius is 3.
5. Find the measure of MP if the length of MK=3x+11 and segment KP=
5x-7.
Meaning Goal
Essential Understanding:
The learners will demonstrate understanding of key concepts of circles and coordinate
geometry as a tool in applying their knowledge in their daily lives.
Essential Questions:
How will the understanding of the key concepts of circles and geometry be applicable in the
lives of the students?
Understanding Tool
Create a painting with reflection using the “Circles-One of the Greatest Discoveries”.
Transfer goal
The students will demonstrate understanding of the basics about circles so that in the long
run they will be able to apply their knowledge in their daily lives.
Stage 2- Instructional Plan
Day 1
Explore:
The teacher will execute the activities like checking of attendance, greetings etc.
The teacher will motivate the students by showing circular objects.
The teacher will tell trivia about the circular objects.
The class will be divided into four groups.
After this, the teacher will let the students to go outside.
Each group should capture pictures together with the objects using their
cameras/cellphones.
The pictures that they had captured will be posted on facebook.
The group who will get the highest number of likes and reactions will be given plus
points in the examination.
Day 2-Day 3
Firm -up
The teacher will formally introduce the topic “Circles (The Basics of Circles)”
with regards to the activity done in the Explore.
The teacher will give the formal definition to the students.
Further concepts and procedures will be done during the discussion.
Process Question:
What is the relationship and significance of circles in real life?
Day 4
Let the students do the Understanding Tool.
Day 5
Let the students do the Knowledge Tool and Process Tool.
