Decibel (DB) : 10 Log ( 1 ) Is The Power in Milliwatts. and Is The Power in DBM

Decibel (dB) and decibel-milliwatts (dBm) are units used to measure signal power or intensity on a logarithmic scale relative to a reference of either 1 unit or 1 milliwatt, respectively. Watts (W) is a unit of power defined as 1 joule per second, and is equal to 1 volt-ampere in electrical engineering. Conversions between watts, dBm, and dB can be calculated using logarithmic formulas based on setting the reference level as 1 milliwatt or subtracting/adding 30 from the dBm unit.

1.

Decibel (dB)
Decibel (dB) is a unit to measure the power or the intensity of a signal relative to some given
reference on the logarithmic scale.

2. Decibel-milliwatts (dBm)
Decibel-milliwatts (dBm) is a unit to measure the power or the intensity of a signal relative to
one milliwatt (mW) reference on the logarithmic scale.

3. Watts (W)
Watt is a unit of power and is defined as the rate of consumption of 1J/s. In electrical
engineering, one watt is equal to one volt-ampere.

i. Watt-to-dBm
𝑃𝑚𝑊
𝑃𝑑𝐵𝑚 = 10 log( )
1𝑚𝑊
𝑃𝑊
Where 𝑃𝑚𝑊 = is the power in milliwatts. And 𝑃𝑑𝐵𝑚 is the power in dBm.

ii. dBm to dB

𝑃𝑑𝐵 = 𝑃𝑑𝐵𝑚 − 30

iii. Watt to dB
