Scheme of Work

First Language English


AY 2019 -2020

Introduction
This scheme of work provides ideas about how to construct and deliver a course. This First English Language aims to equip the learners the fundamental
competencies to be able to pass the IGSCE. This subject is divided to 14 units that offer varied learning activities. Every unit of this subject focuses to one language
skills; reading, writing, listening speaking. Each of the 14 unites has a rich variety of activities and task sufficient to last for several weeks of classroom lessons plus
homework. All the learning experiences included are designed for the students to perform at the highest level in English language examination.
Student will be exposed to skills development, such as sentence construction, vocabulary extension, punctuation and spelling. In addition, integrated
language teaching approach will be used to maximize language learning.
This subject supports also studying for both core and extended level examination tiers. The Response Writing units build skills and provide practice in
content, structure and style for written responses in paper based on reading passages, which include directed writing and an evaluation of ideas contained in a text.
The Continuous Writing units focus on the skills needed for the narrative and descriptive choices in composition papers and coursework assignment topics provide
texts that contain facts, opinions and argument for analysis and evaluation, and offer a variety of stimulus resources for composition writing.
Speaking and Listening skills are covered in this subject, with numerous opportunities for the skills acquisition and classroom practice of aural and oral
activities in a variety of groupings and situation; to prepare for speaking and listening examinations.
By the end of this course, students should have become more confident in thinking about language, handing and responding to texts, and approaching and
fulfilling tasks. They also have expanded vocabulary, increased accuracy and improved in all skills areas; so that they are fully prepared to sit exams successfully,
and to transfer their language skills to further education and to the workplace.
Assessment Objectives

Cambridge IGCSE First Language English has three Assessment Objectives (AOs).

AO1: Reading Candidates will be assessed on their ability to:
