“An educated person is one who goes on gaining knowledge until coffin is nailed”- by
Harold Nicolson.
Keeping this in my mind and standing right at the threshold of life with a compelling
academic track record and inspiring experience, I have realised that there is still so much
more to learn and achieve. Choices made now will have long lasting consequences and
attention must be paid very carefully while making the choices for the good universities. By
making the university as my best choice to pursue my Computer Science program, I will
definitely attain an in depth understanding of the subject and enhance and enrich my
knowledge in the long to scale new heights.
Right from the start of my schooling, I have been intrigued by science and mathematics
because of their preciseness and logical theory involved. I passed out of 10th standard with
81% in Mathematics and 75% in Science. I have also participated in science fair conducted at
SVIMS in Tirupathi and got 4th prize. This fascination made me take up Mathematics,
Physics and Chemistry as core subjects in my higher secondary and also helped me score
93.3%. In my higher secondary, Mathematics covers the integration and differentiation in
statistics. In EAMCET, a common entrance test for under graduation studies, I secured
17901th rank amongst all the exam takers who were more than 300 thousand in number. This
rank enabled me get admission in one of the most reputed universities in India – Jawaharlal
Nehru Technological University in Anantapur. Having graduated from the department of
Information Technology and also consistently securing one of the top five positions in a class
of 64, I was awarded a silver medal titled “The Best Outgoing Student of the Department” for
bragging the first position with 74% in first semister.
Here I was introduced to hitherto unheard-of uses for a computer and was thrust into a new
world. Programming, coding, testing and various other things that serve a dual purpose. Just
as they can achieve complicated tasks like moving the arms and limbs of a robot they can
also make simple, mundane tasks like serving reminders for appointments. At every step I
strived to put into practice any theoretical knowledge I gained. A hand on approach always
leads to a better understanding of one’s abilities to perform. This penchant for practical
application always kept me close to the top of my class whether it was in academics or up to
date knowledge of the ever changing world of Computer science.
My undergraduate course has given me a comprehensive knowledge of the basic areas in
Computer Science & Engineering such as Computer Organization, Operating Systems,
Principles of Programming Languages and Computer Networks. Subjects like Computer
Graphics, Neural Networks and Object Oriented Programming have been of special interest
to me.
As my Engineering drew close to an end I had to make a choice of whether to find a job or
pursue further education. I made the decision to work. I applied for a position at HCL
Technologies Ltd., one of the leading global IT service providers. I have been offered the
position of a Developer and I grabbed the opportunity with both hands. I clearly knew that I
wanted to further my knowledge to gain a deeper understanding in a field of my choice. But I
opted for waiting few years to develop an experience of work culture. My decision stands
vindicated as I have found the experience here at HCL to be invaluable and most fulfilling.
Computer science was the obvious field of choice for my masters as it is my passion.
Knowledge is never complete and is need of constant refuelling. This can be achieved by
constant learning.
In addition to that, I firmly believe there are more yardsticks for a person to cover other than
mere grades. During my under graduation, I was part of the organizing team in the events
conducted by the department of Information Technology during the years 2007-2011. I have
participated in several competitions such as Paper presentations at GITAM University’s
National Technical Symposium, games like Cricket, volley ball and table tennis. In final year
project at HCL Technologies, I was applauded by my managers for being the active member
of our project Fun Team. We celebrated festivals by decorating the whole work stations
involving all the team members. We have also organized team outings and innovative fun
activities which brought refreshment amidst the busy work schedules.
Considering all the above aspects and my professional experience, I would like to update my
skills and utilize my strong abilities in understanding the real world. A key ingredient to
professional success apart from financial rewards is a sense of achievement and a degree of
fulfilment derived from one's professional career. Graduation provides one with a wide range
of problem solving skills, prepares one for research and also a Challenge in itself. This makes
Master's Degree indispensable to my career goals and Master’s degree is definitely an
appropriate step towards my goal of a Ph.D. The one quote I constantly keep in my mind to
face challenges is “If I try, I am sure I can – Louis Pasteur”.
I have applied to this University as the distinguished faculty and excellent facilities at your
university make its graduation program ideally suited to my professional goals. Your
University provides me a dynamic atmosphere, which will shape me to be a thinker and a
learner. The flexibility of the curriculum will give me the broad-based education I need to
widen the scope of my knowledge and skills. The diversity of the student’s body will open
my mind to new influences, new ideas and new ways of doing things.
I strongly believe that “the best way to learn is to learn from the best” and this constitutes the
true motivation behind my present application. Eagerly looking forward to joining your
university as a graduate student at your esteemed department.
