190501 Velomitor* CT Velocity Transducer

Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring

Description
The Velomitor* CT Velocity Transducer is a low-frequency version of our
standard Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensor. Its design specifically measures
casing vibration velocity on cooling tower and air-cooled heat-exchanger fan
assemblies that operate at or above 90 rpm (100 to 300 rpm typical). The
Velomitor CT Transducer can measure vibration amplitudes at these frequencies
as well as the vibration frequencies generated by the fan motor and speed
reducer.

Application Advisory
VELOMITOR CT
If you plan to make housing measurements for overall protection
of the machine, consider the usefulness of the measurement for
each application. Most common machine malfunctions
(imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and cause
an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For any
housing measurement alone to be effective for overall machine
protection, the machine must faithfully transmit a significant
amount of rotor vibration to the bearing housing or machine
casing, or more specifically, to the mounting location of the
transducer.
Exercise care when physically installing the transducer. Improper
installation can degrade the transducer’s performance, and/or
generate signals that do not represent actual machine vibration.
Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine
the appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in
question and/or to provide installation assistance.

Velomitor* Piezo-velocity Sensor
Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring
Description
Velomitor* Piezo-velocity Sensors measure absolute (relative to free space)
bearing housing, casing, or structural vibration. Unlike moving-coil velocity
transducers, such as the Bently Nevada Seismoprobe* family of velocity
transducers, Velomitor Piezo-velocity sensors are specialized piezoelectric
accelerometers that incorporate embedded integrated electronics in a solid-
state design. Because they incorporate solid-state electronics and have no
moving parts, they do not suffer from mechanical degradation and wear, and
can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at any other angle of orientation.

Application Advisory
If you plan to make housing measurements for overall machine protection,
consider the usefulness of the measurement for each application. Most
common machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at
the rotor and cause an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For
any housing measurement to be effective for overall machine protection,
the machine must faithfully transmit a significant amount of rotor vibration
to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to the
mounting location of the transducer. In addition, you should exercise care
in the physical installation of the transducer. Improper installation can
degrade the transducer’s performance, and/or generate signals that do not
represent actual machine vibration. Integration of the output to
displacement can make this worse. Exercise extreme caution if integrating
to displacement in any case.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the

appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or
to provide installation assistance.

9200, 74712 Seismoprobe®

Description
Bently Nevada Seismoprobe® Velocity Transducer Systems are designed to
measure absolute (relative to free space) bearing housing, casing, or structural
vibration. The two-wire systems consist of a transducer, appropriate cable, and
an optional velocity-to-displacement converter.

The Seismoprobe family of velocity transducers is a two-wire design that uses

moving-coil technology and provides a voltage output directly proportional to
the transducer's vibration velocity. Unlike solid-state velocity transducers (which
are inherently accelerometers with embedded integration electronics), moving-
coil transducers are less sensitive to impact or impulsive excitation, and can
represent a good choice for certain applications. Also, because they require no
external power, they are convenient for portable measurement applications.

Note: For the majority of installations, Bently Nevada's Velomitor® family of velocity transducers, which incorporate
solid-state technology, represent superior performance and robustness for casing velocity measurement applications.
Arial

Two types of Seismoprobe Velocity Transducers are available:

9200: The 9200 is a two-wire transducer suitable for continuous

monitoring or for periodic measurements in conjunction with test or
diagnostic instruments. When ordered with the integral cable option, the
9200 has excellent resistance to corrosive environments without need of
additional protection.
74712: The 74712 is a high temperature version of the 9200.

Various interconnect cables are available for connecting the 9200 and 74712
transducers to other instruments or a velocity-to-displacement converter. These
cables are available in one-foot (300 mm) increments, with or without stainless
steel armor.

One type of velocity-to displacement converter (VDC) is available:

9513: to be used with 9200 and 74712 transducers.

330525 Velomitor* XA Piezo-velocity Sensor
Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring

Description
The Velomitor* XA (eXtended Application) Sensor is a ruggedized version of
Bently Nevada's 330500 Velomitor Sensor. Its 316L stainless steel case and
unique, weatherproof connector and cable assembly permit mounting without a
housing. The Velomitor XA Sensor cable assembly is suitable for use in moist
environments, and the Velomitor XA Sensor design meets the requirements of IP-
65 and NEMA 4X when properly installed with a mating extension cable.

Caution
If housing measurements are being made for overall protection, give thought to
the usefulness of the measurement for each application. Most common
machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and
cause an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For any housing
measurement alone to be effective for overall machine protection, the system
must faithfully transmit a significant amount of rotor vibration to the bearing
housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to the mounting location of the
transducer.

In addition, exercise care when choosing the physical installation of the

transducer. Improper installation can change the transducer amplitude and
frequency response and/or generate signals that do not represent actual
machine vibration.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the

appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or
to provide installation assistance.

330400 and 330425 Accelerometer Acceleration
Transducers
Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring

Description
These accelerometers are intended for critical machinery applications where
casing acceleration measurements are required, such as gear mesh monitoring.
The 330400 is designed to address the requirements of American Petroleum
Institute Standard 670 for accelerometers. It provides an amplitude range of 50
g peak and a sensitivity of 100 mV/g. The 330425 is identical except it provides a
larger amplitude range (75 g peak) and a sensitivity of 25 mV/g.

Caution
If housing measurements are being made for overall protection of the machine,
thought should be given to the usefulness of the measurement for each
application. Most common machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment,
etc.) originate at the rotor and cause an increase (or at least a change) in rotor
vibration. In order for any housing measurement alone to be effective for overall
machine protection, a significant amount of rotor vibration must be faithfully
transmitted to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to
the mounting location of the transducer.

In addition, care should be exercised in the physical installation of the

transducer. Improper installation can result in a degradation of the transducer’s
performance, and/or the generation of signals which do not represent actual
machine vibration. Integration of the output to velocity can worsen this.
Extreme caution should be exercised if integrating to velocity. For high quality
velocity measurements the 330500 Velomitor* Sensor should be used.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the

appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or
to provide installation assistance.

330750 and 330752 High Temperature Velomitor*
System
Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring
Description
The standard 330500 Velomitor* Piezo-velocity Sensor has a limited temperature
range it can be exposed to, due to its signal conditioning electronics being
located in the same case as the sensing element. Temperature limitations of the
electronics limit its maximum operating temperature to +121°C (+250°F).

The 330750 and 330752 High Temperature Velomitor System (HTVS) has a
fundamentally different construction to solve this problem. Its design segregates
the sensing element from the signal conditioning electronics, with the two
permanently connected via a hardline cable. Current versions (see note below)
of these sensors allow the sensing head to be mounted on surfaces with
temperatures as high as +400°C (+752°F). Due to the segregated design, the
signal conditioning electronics can be installed in a cooler location. This
achieves overall transducer system performance comparable to other Velomitor
transducers, but permits use at significantly higher temperatures. By eliminating
connections between the sensing head and its associated signal conditioning
electronics, a significant source of potential transducer failures (connector
problems) is eliminated.

Upon request, Bently Nevada can provide engineering services to determine the
appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or
to provide installation assistance.

Note: The previous version limited the sensor head to +300°C (+572°F). The current versions will have the letter
“G” preceding the serial number. Arial here

200350 and 200355 Accelerometers
Bently Nevada™ Asset Condition Monitoring
Description
The 200350 and 200355 Accelerometers are general purpose, case-
mounted seismic transducers designed for use with Trendmaster Pro
Constant Current Direct Input Card 149811-02 and the Seismic Direct
Input Card 164746-01.
The 200350 and 200355 Accelerometers are contained within a
hermetically sealed, stainless steel case. The design provides an
extremely rugged transducer, well suited for harsh industrial
environments. Each transducer’s top mounted, 2-pin connector (MIL-C-
5015) allows for easy installation and removal of the interconnecting
signal cable. A ¼-28 threaded hole on the bottom of the casing
ACCELEROMETER
accommodates multiple mounting options.
The 200350 and 200355 Accelerometers contain a piezoelectric sensing
device, which generates charge when subjected to vibration. This charge
is then converted electronically to a differential voltage signal, which is
proportional to the acceleration that is parallel to the sensitive axis of the
transducer.

Application Alert
If housing measurements are being made for overall protection of
the machine, consider the usefulness of the measurement for
each application. Most common machine malfunctions
(imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and cause
an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For housing
measurements alone to be effective for overall machine
protection, a significant amount of rotor vibration must be
faithfully transmitted to the bearing housing or machine casing,
or more specifically, to the mounting location of the transducer.

In addition, exercise care in the physical installation of the

transducer. Improper installation can result in a degradation of
the transducer’s performance and/or the generation of signals
that do not represent actual machine vibration.
Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine
the suitability of housing measurements for the machine in
question and/or to provide installation

200150, 200155 & 200157 Accelerometers
Bently Nevada™ Asset Condition Monitoring
Description
The 20015x Accelerometers are general purpose, wide frequency, case-mounted
seismic transducers designed for use with Trendmaster proTIMs.
The 200150 Accelerometer also operates with the Trendmaster 2000 system. The
accelerometer interfaces with the 200100 Dual Acceleration to Velocity
flexiTIM™ Module and the 89130-01 Acceleration-to-Velocity TIM (Transducer
Interface Module), as well as the 1900/25 and 1900/27 monitors.
The 20015x Accelerometers feature a hermetically sealed, stainless steel case.
This design provides an extremely rugged transducer that is well suited for harsh
industrial environments. The transducer’s top-mounted, 5-pin connector allows
you to easily install and remove the interconnecting signal cable. A 3/8-24
threaded hole on the bottom of the sensor’s casing accommodates several
mounting options.
The 20015x Accelerometers contain a piezoelectric sensing device that
generates a charge when it is subjected to vibration. The accelerometers
electronically convert this charge to a differential voltage signal that is
proportional to the acceleration that is parallel to the sensitive axis of the
transducer.

Application Advisories
1. Use of the 200155 and 200157 Accelerometers with
1900 monitors or with TIMs other than those listed in
Table 1 will result in false readings.
2. Operating the transducers outside their specified
limits will result in false readings or loss of machine
monitoring.

Note that the acceleration-to-velocity circuitry in the 200200 and 200250
proTIMs will attentuate frequencies above 1 kHz . Attempts to obtain higher
frequency information with the 200155 or 200157 will be ineffective.
The wider frequency range of the 200155 and 200157 accelerometers may
result in increased noise compared to the 200150. We recommend that you
used the 200155 transducer for frequencies of interest below 10 Hz. Use the
200157 only if the application requires acceleration enveloping. Use of the
200155 or the 200157 in place of the 200150 may result in faulty readings. Refer
to the proTIM datasheet for the proper frequency response of the system.

Application Advisory
If you plan to use housing measurements for overall machinery
protection, consider the usefulness of the measurement for each
application. Most common machine malfunctions (imbalance,
misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and cause an increase
(or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For the housing
measurement alone to be effective for overall machine
protection, the installation must faithfully transmit a significant
amount of rotor vibration to the bearing housing or machine
casing, or more specifically, to the mounting location of the
transducer.

In addition, exercise care in the physical installation of the

transducer. Improper installation can degrade the transducer’s
performance and/or the generation of signals that do not
represent actual machine vibration.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine

the suitability of housing measurements for the machine in
question and/or to provide installation assistance.

350900 High Temperature Velocity and Acceleration Sensor

Description
The 350900 High Temperature Velocity and Acceleration Sensor (HTVAS)
provides a continuous acceleration and velocity output, allowing the customer to
protect their machine with an velocity signal while simultaneously capturing the
acceleration signal for machinery diagnostics. Its design is primarily for use with
the 3500/42M and 3500/44M monitors. When attaching the HTVAS to a
3500/42M or 3500/44M monitor you must use the acceleration and velocity
signals from the transducer on a separate channel pair (such as channels 1 and
3) or on separate monitors.

The 350900 High Temperature Velocity and Acceleration Sensor (HTVAS)

separates the high-temperature sensing element from the signal conditioning
electronics, with the two permanently connected via a hardline cable. This
arrangement allows you to mount the sensing head on surfaces with
temperatures as high as +482 °C (+900 °F), while installing the signal
conditioning electronics in a cooler location. Eliminating connections between
the sensing head and its associated signal conditioning electronics also
eliminates a significant source of potential transducer failures (connector
problems). This achieves overall transducer system performance comparable to
other case-mounted vibration transducers, but permits use at significantly
higher temperatures. The main features of the 350900 HTVAS are as follows:

• Velocity and acceleration output

• High temperature operation up to +482°C (+900 °F)

• Electronics rated to +125°C (+257°F), survivable to +155°C (+311°F)

Application Advisory

If housing measurements are being made for overall protection of the machine, give
thought to the usefulness of the measurement for each application. Most common
machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at the rotor and cause an
increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. For any housing measurement alone to
be effective for overall machine protection, the machine must faithfully transmit a
significant amount of rotor vibration to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more
specifically, to the mounting location of the transducer.

In addition, exercise care in the physical installation of the transducer. Improper

installation can degrade the transducer’s performance, and/or generate signals which do
not represent actual machine vibration.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the suitability of housing
measurements for the machine in question and/or to provide installation assistance.

330505 Low Frequency Velocity Sensor
Bently Nevada* Asset Condition Monitoring
Description
The Bently Nevada Low Frequency Velocity Sensor is designed to measure
absolute (relative to free space) bearing housing, casing, or structural
vibration. The two-wire system consists of a transducer and appropriate
cable.

The Low Frequency Velocity Sensor is ideal for capturing vibration data in
installations where vibration frequencies of less than 4 Hz provide valuable
data. Its main use is to measure bearing casing vibrations on hydroelectric
turbines where slow rotating speeds require a low signal to noise ratio. The
330505 Transducer is a two-wire design that uses moving-coil technology
with embedded signal conditioning circuitry to provide a voltage output
directly proportional to the transducer's vibration velocity. The 330505
Transducer connects to an interconnect cable and is then directly attached
into the 3500/46M Hydro Monitor. This transducer currently does NOT
interface with the Trendmaster* family of products. Additionally, due to
capacitance constraints, hazardous area approvals will NOT be available on
this product.

Caution
Due to the nature of high amplitude, low frequency velocity events, the
330505 Low Frequency Velocity Sensor cannot be used for automated
machinery protection. It is designed to provide early warning of pending
machinery problems and to assist in diagnosing machinery problems. False
alarms or trips could potentially result if the velocity signal is integrated to
displacement in the 3500/46M and used as an alarm or shutdown protection
parameter. Small electrical disturbances or mechanical "spikes" can cause a
large output from the displacement integrator that may take several minutes
to settle below the alarm or trip level. This is especially true when integration
is performed at a low frequency (below 1Hz). The 3500/46M monitor has the
capability to set long alarm or trip time delays to avoid these false alarms as
long as the time delays are compatible with machine's protection
requirements. If the velocity output is used rather than displacement as the
protection parameter, the sensor is suitable for use as an input to a
protection system.

In addition, care should be exercised in the physical installation of the

transducer. Improper installation can result in a degradation of the
transducer’s performance, and/or the generation of signals which do not
represent actual machine vibration.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the

appropriateness of housing measurements for the machine in question
and/or to provide installation assistance.

Note: For the majority of installations, our Velomitor* family of velocity transducers, which
incorporate solid-state technology, represent superior performance and robustness for casing

Radiation Resistant Velomitor® Piezo-velocity
Sensor

Description
Velomitor® Piezo-velocity Sensors measure absolute bearing housing, casing, or
structural vibration relative to free space. Unlike our Seismoprobe® Sensor and
other moving-coil velocity transducers, Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensors are
specialized solid-state piezoelectric accelerometers with embedded integration
electronics. Because the sensors have no moving parts, they do not suffer from
mechanical degradation or wear and can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or
at any other angle of orientation. In addition, the 330530 sensor is specifically
designed to function in a gamma-radiation environment.
Application Alert
If housing measurements are being made for overall machine protection, the
user should consider the usefulness of the measurement for each application.
Most common machine malfunctions (imbalance, misalignment, etc.) originate at
the rotor and cause an increase (or at least a change) in rotor vibration. In order
for any housing measurement alone to be effective for overall machine
protection, the machine must faithfully transmit a significant amount of rotor
vibration to the bearing housing or machine casing, or more specifically, to the
mounting location of the transducer.

In addition, the user should exercise care when physically installing the
transducer. Improper installation can degrade the transducer’s performance,
and/or generate signals that do not represent actual machine vibration.
Integration of the output to displacement can worsen this. Exercise extreme
caution if integrating to displacement in any case, this goes against our
engineering best practices.

Upon request, we can provide engineering services to determine the suitability

of housing measurements for the machine in question and/or to provide
installation assistance.

Summary - Testing Report
(For complete details refer to the white paper “Test Report of the Radiation Resistant Velomitor sensor 330530”)

We completed a series of tests to insure that the product will meet the specifications contained in this document. The
information in the white paper outlines the details regarding the testing and irradiation. The customer can use the
information in the whitepaper to validate how the product is used and infer how the product could change with
gamma-radiation exposures. Note, however, that any observation or extrapolation of this data is not a guarantee of
the product performance. Listed below are limitations and boundary conditions.

Important items about the testing:

o The Device Under Test (DUT) will have the largest parameter shift when the unit is powered up and being
irradiated at the same time.
o The gamma-radiation was from a Co60 source. A number of 16-inch-long rods were placed in a circular
pattern around the DUT to establish uniform radiation and exposure levels around the DUT. The length of the
rods ensured that the top and bottom of the DUT were also being irradiated, albeit at a slightly lower level.
The dosage rate is the sum effect of all of the rays intersecting at the DUT.

The product was not designed or tested:

o to be a part of the control loop as the product design is for monitoring purposes only,
o for LOCA (loss of coolant accident), sometimes called LOC (loss of coolant), events,
o to withstand neutron radiation, or
o for spike or burst events.

Observation:
• Sensitivity:
o Starts at 3.94 mV/mm/s (100 mV/in/s) ± 5%.
o With each 3 Mrad gamma-radiation exposure the average change decreased 3%.
• Output Bias Voltage:
o Starting point:
 -12.0 ± 1.0 volts @ room temperature
 -12.0 ± 3.45 volts @ over temperature
o As the device is irradiated, the DUT will shift in both directions, making the window larger. This wider
window results in a smaller dynamic range.
• As a note: We tested a number of the units and at no time did any of the units fail. The numbers of units
tested at the higher radiation level (maximum of 13 Mrad) did not constitute a significant sample size to
guarantee the product at these higher levels.

Accelerometer Mounting Kit

Description
The Accelerometer Mounting Kit protects an accelerometer from adverse
physical and environmental conditions. The mounting kit’s rugged design is both
water-tight and dust resistant.

The mounting kit is available in three configurations to house various

accelerometers. All kits consist of a flat cover with a housing base, a set of three
1/4-in 20 UNC x 0.62 mounting screws with lock washers, a cable grip, an O-ring,
and a gasket. One configuration adds an optional dome cover. Another
configuration adds an optional extension and an optional dome cover. All kit
designs mate with 12-mm (1/2-in) flexible or rigid conduit. Properly installed kits,
using an accelerometer mounting base and rigid or flexible conduit, meet API
670 requirements. The conduit is ordered as an accessory. The mounting base
is an accessory with the 23732, 330400 and 330425. Prior to mounting, the
machine surface where the housing will be installed must be spot faced.

An optional 303 stainless steel accelerometer mounting kit for extra protection in
corrosive environments is also available. It can be ordered under part number
164952-AA-BB.

The VPM is powered by an internal 9-volt transistor battery, or it can be powered
by an external +24 Vdc source. The VPM will shut itself off when the battery

transducer to the VPM and to diagnostic instrumentation. Two BNC connectors
are provided on the front of the VPM for each channel; one each for input and
output. A 4.6 m (15 ft) cable assembly is supplied with each kit for interfacing a
Velomitor transducer to the VPM. Additional cable assemblies can be ordered as
needed. Standard coaxial cable assemblies (male BNC connectors at each end)
are used to connect the VPM's transducer signal to the diagnostic instrument.

Seismic Transducer Mounting Systems

Description
The Quick-Set and Mag-Force mounting systems provide an alternative method
for mounting the following seismic transducers:

• 200150 Accelerometer
• 190520 Accelerometer

• 190501 Velomitor® CT

138648-01 Quick-Set Either mounting system can be ordered as part of these transducers by
139153-01 MAG-Force specifying the appropriate mounting stud option. They are easier to implement
than conventional stud mounting, and are stronger than most adhesive studs.

Note: These mounting systems are suitable only when it is not necessary to
measure frequencies above 2kHz.

The Quick-Set system uses a low torque, self-tapping screw that can be screwed
into a #26 pilot hole drilled in the machine casing. It also has a 3/8-in 24 stud to
attach the transducer. This is usually easier to accomplish than drilling and
tapping the machine to accept a threaded stud.

The Mag-Force system uses a powerful magnet in conjunction with a durable

industrial strength adhesive. The combination of the magnet and adhesive
provides a more durable installation than either one alone. Since it is not
necessary to drill a hole in the machine, the costs associated with system
documentation may be less than when the machine is drilled and tapped.
