Rationale
According to GOVPH Climate change is happening now. Climate change refers
to the long-term changes in the climate that occur over decades, centuries or longer. It is
caused by rapidly increasing greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere due primarily
to burning fossil fuels (e.g., coal, oil, and natural gas) (reefresilience.org).
These heat-trapping gases are warming the Earth and the Oceans resulting in rising sea
levels, changes in storm patterns, altered ocean currents, changes in rainfall, melting
snow and ice, more extreme heat events, fires, and drought. These impacts are
projected to continue and in some cases, intensify, affecting human health,
infrastructure, forests, agriculture, freshwater supplies, coastlines, and marine systems
"Even if we manage to limit global warming, we will continue to see major
changes in the oceans," said Valerie Masson-Delmotte, a researcher at the Laboratory
for Climate and Environmental Sciences and an IPCC co-chair, but according to
BBC.com, “The only way to change the game is to redesign its most basic rules”
According to Solar Impulse Foundation, There are ways to reduce Global
Warming. Some of these are Renewable energies,The first way to prevent climate
change is to move away from fossil fuels. Energy & water efficiency, Producing clean
energy is essential, but reducing our consumption of energy and water by using more
efficient devices (e.g. LED light bulbs, innovative shower system) is less costly and
equally important. Sustainable transportation,Promoting public transportation,
carpooling, but also electric and hydrogen mobility, can definitely help reduce CO2
emissions and thus fight global warming.Responsible consumption & recycling,
Adopting responsible consumption habits is crucial, be it regarding food (particularly
meat), clothing, cosmetics or cleaning products. Last but not least, recycling is an
absolute necessity for dealing with waste.
