Structural Beam Analysis Guide

1) The document provides examples of using the moment distribution method to analyze continuous beams. 2) The first example analyzes a continuous beam and calculates the distribution factors, fixed end moments, moment distribution table, bending moments, shear forces, and draws the shear force and bending moment diagrams. 3) The second example analyzes another continuous beam using a similar process as the first example. 4) The third example analyzes a continuous beam where one of the supports settles, and provides the distribution factors to begin the analysis.

Moment Distribution Method

Example 1:

Analyse the continuous beam shown Bellow using the moment distribution method. Draw the
bending moment diagram and shear force diagram. Assume constant EI throughout the beam.

Solution
Step 1: The distribution factors at joint B are evaluated as follows.
