Sample Lab Report.1

This document summarizes the results of a statistical analysis of students' grades performed in Microsoft Excel. Table 1 shows the max, average, median, and standard deviation for students' scores on class quizzes, online quizzes, and lab reports. Graphs 1-3 illustrate the relationships between average scores on each assessment type and cumulative average. Graph 1 shows the weakest relationship while Graph 2 shows the strongest. In conclusion, the students' average grade was 0.72, indicating they worked hard. The low standard deviation of 0.12 for cumulative average also suggests students performed equally overall.

Abstract:

The original objective of this experiment was to examine the relationships with students’ grades
in Mechanics of Materials-II Laboratory. The tool through which all data have been statistically
analyzed, was Ms. Excel. By using Ms. Excel we can perform different operations on the given data,
such that we can find Mean, Median, Mode and Standard Deviation etc. of the given Data. This tool is
effectively used to statistically analyze any data. In this lab report we have found the maximum,
average, mean, median and standard deviation of different students in class quizzes, online quizzes and
in lab reports. At the end we have found cumulative average of all students in online quizzes, class
quizzes and lab reports by specific ratio and also have found max, mean, median and standard
deviation among all students.

Results:

Table 1 summarizes the statistical results for students’ grades in CENE 253L Mechanics of Materials:

Discussion of Results:
By using statistical approach, different statistical operations have been performed such as mean,
median, standard deviation and maximum, to find out grades of each students in each quizzes and lab
report. Formula of operations that have been applied to find out mean, max, median and standard
deviation on Ms. Excel are given below as:
Mean=AVERAGE( )
Max=MAX( )
Median=MEDIAN( )
Standard Deviation( )

The graphs have been drawn between average of online quizzes, class quizzes and lab report versus
cumulative average. And a trendline is drawn in the each graph which represent the average value.
There are three graphs as mentioned above in the result.

Graph 1 is drawn between online quizzes average and cumulative average, by taking online
quizzes average on x-axis and cumulative average on y-axis. A trendline is drawn where y = 0.5116x
+ 0.3574 represent the equation of slope and R² = 0.379 represents the dispersions from the trendline.
It is noticed that value of R² is far away from 1 by comparing it with the other two graph. So it shows
that uncertainty is greater in online quizzes average V/S Cumulative average graph than the other two
graph. As only 0.1 percent of online quizzes average is included in Cumulative average which is
lesser than other two.
Graph 2 is drawn between class quizzes average and cumulative average, by taking
class quizzes average on x-axis and cumulative average on y-axis. A trendline is drawn
where y = 0.8487x + 0.1081 represent the equation of slope and R² = 0.886 represent the
dispersion from trendline. It is noticed that value of R² is very close to 1 by comparing it
with other two graph. It means the uncertainty of class quizzes average over the
cumulative average is lesser than the others. As only 0.2 percent of class quizzes average
is taken in cumulative average.
Graph 3 is drawn between lab report average and cumulative average, by taking lab report average on
x-axis and cumulative average on y-axis. A trendline is drawn where y = 0.4469x + 0.401 represent the
equation of trendline and R² = 0.4361 represent the dispersion from the trendline. It is noticed that value
of R² is in between from the other two value of other two graph. It is concluded that this graph represent
intermediate uncertainty by comparing with others two. As its only 0.7 percent is taken in cumulative
average.

Conclusion:
As the objective of this experiment was to examine the relationships with students’ grades in Mechanics
of Materials-II Laboratory. Finally the relationship of student grades in Mechanics of Material-II is
examined. It is concluded that the average of students are good and hardworking. As the mean of
cumulative average is 0.723610713, it proves that average students are hardworking, their professor also
working hard to improve his student, by taking quizzes on each and every topic. In class quizzes over all
students mean is greater than the other two quizzes. And the standard deviation of cumulative average is
only 0.12148535, it shows that all students are performing equally, there is not any great difference
between every students performance.
